Nope.

Both are on (non-turbo) 4- and 6-cylinder tags, which didn't get the quick-ratio rack.

Just throwing this out, DF could that be for the exterior 1/4 trim panels to be painted black or matched to the color of the car?

What about the passenger mirror?

It was an option on the early cars.

The paint shop would not know which car got black and which car got body color since each instance had the 'DF' code.

That's what the code "DRM" (dual remote mirrors) is for. ;)

Okay, lets settle this. Sandy made a call, that resulted in a second call. This is what I was told regarding "DF" ~
You were sorta kinda correct in the two words of DOOR FRAME, but a much needed explanation was needed.
I was told that DF did stand for Door Frame. What it meant was that the applied DOORS (2) would be with frame. If the car was destined to go to
Cars & Concepts for a T-Roof, then a framless door would be installed.

Now , to me, after thinking this thru...I wonder and am not 100% convienced - because the number of units with a FoMoCo supplier installing the T-Tops would be tiny, compared to cars with out T-Tops.
So then, why mark the cars that were "regular" (Solid roofs) when it would be easier just to mark cars needing frameless doors ?
2+2=3 ? Perhaps, but while the explanation seems legit..... why mark 95% units that are the norm....rather than marking the5% that were NOT the norm. 8 - 1986 ascMcLarens had T-Tops.....
?????????????????????? Anyone on here have T-Top McLaren (it would have to be a 1986 to check ??????????? :shrug

I have data from 70 tags with both 'TR' (T-roof) and 'DF' codes on them.

I have data from tags from 33 convertibles that also have 'DF'.

Well the converts would need frameless doors, but do all 1986 Capri McLaren Converts have DF ? That wouldd make sence.

'DF' is on tags from bodies with door frames (solid roof and sunroof) and on tags from bodies without door frames (T-roof and convertible).

'DF' is on tags from models that had black door frames and on tags from models that had body-color door frames.

'DF' is on tags from cars/models with black sail panels and on tags from cars/models body-color sail panels.

Sandy, just so you know, Foxchassis has been working on this for quite some time.

He is one of those very methodical guys who has been collecting numerous data tags and vc labels to try and piece the oddball mysteries together.

Those two codes are not going to be an obvious thing I'm afraid. It is going to be subtle and maybe of no real consequence.

But it's a fun game.

Add two more to that list.

I had queried the database only for entries that have 'CVT' for the bodystyle code. Since Capris only have a '61D' bodystyle code, even if they were destined to become a convertible, they obviously didn't show up in the query.

The additional two are '86 McLaren convertibles.

So what cars are missing ST or DF? Can we narrow it down to years?

I'm intrigued by the few codes that occur rather frequently but aren't yet presenting their meaning via FoxChassis' database.

Considering that the Buck tag seemingly defines the core structural components of each car prior to paint and apparently also the wiring harness requirements to support the items shown on the VC label and build sheet; I have been looking thru my "Standard Catalog" data to see what options would drive structural items (i.e. A/C requires firewall holes different from a non-A/C car, or a V8 requires 2 inner fender air intake holes not just one) or that necessitate specific wiring (power locks or rear defrost).

I think I must not be seeing the forest for the trees. There can't be that many not-yet-defined options under the hood or needing special wiring, can there be?

Out of all the data I have entered into the database (only '82 through '86), the following Buck Tags do not have 'DF'.

'82 Capri -- 1 of 1 (solid roof, Specialty Tu-tone)
'82 Capri L -- 2 of 2 (1 solid roof, 1 sunroof)
'82 Capri GS -- 1 of 1 (solid roof)

'82 Mustang GT -- 12 of 24 (6 solid roof, 5 sunroof, 1 T-roof)
'82 Mustang SSP -- 1 of 1 (solid roof)

'83 Capri -- 1 of 1, unknown if L or GS (sunroof)
'83 Capri RS -- 1 of 7 (sunroof)

'83 Mustang SSP -- 1 of 1 (solid roof)

'84 Mustang -- 1 of 1, unknown if L or LX (solid roof)
'84 Mustang GT -- 1 of 35 (sunroof)
'84 Mustang SSP -- 4 of 4 (4 solid roof)
