I may be crazy but I have got to find an original battery for my vert. Does anyone have any expertise in this area or at least success in finding one? MCA unrestored class is the reason for this insanity. six points is a hell of a deduction. thanks in advance for the help.

Let me know too. The local Ford dealer tells me that a Motorcraft Battery is no longer available.

Yeah I've got the new Motorcraft battery in the car right now. I believe it is group 56? But if someone has an original laying around that I can clean up or restore for the car shows, I'd be ecstatic.

Battery

Post by svo413 »

It took me a few years to track down an original battery for my SVO. They did make a change in the case sometime about 88 or so. I'm thinking that was the year since they upgraded the battery that year. I'll have to check the MCA test. The 6 point deduction in the the unrestored class usually is not a killer but sometimes there are other things that cannot be easily fixed either. Go for the bonus points with the new car docs!

Well I made up for it on the bonus points. How did you find yours? Do you have a snap shot of the original? Never seen what it looks like.

Battery

Post by svo413 »

I found mine posted on one of the web boards and met the guy at Knotts. Now I need a sealed box to haul it around. Let me see if I can figure out how to post a pic.[/img]http://www.ascmclaren.org/phpBB/album_p ... ic_id=2039

Notice the black top and white case.

Change?

Post by svo413 »

The battery changed about 88 or 89? I would have to guess to all black. It was on the MCA judging certification test. It would still have the black and white label I believe. The sealed box it for storing it while traveling. Don't want to take chances with battery acid.

Ok, just went and looked it up. The last year the Mustang BX 58C battery had a white case and black top was 1990. So, you are looking for one like the photo! There is no date markings on the original battery that I could find.

Why dont you drill a hole or two and drain the battery so as to have less of a chance of gases and or spill.

Another thing to look for in the Junkyards

I have drained the battery but I'm not going to take a chance tossing it in the back seat without a case to put it in.

I would make friends with a battery supplier/recycler. I worked next to a Motorcraft distributor/dealer and saw pallets of recycle batteries. Never saw an older Motorcraft one.

As a judge, I would be hard pressed to find a Motorcraft black top/white case battery unacceptiable. All you need is a sticker. Most are all black cases now.

It's not an ASC but just a LX vert. A really nice driver for the wife. It was a little old lady car with a 5.0 We have had it about 2 months now.
