First time out this year
for the first time I was able to drive my coupe after finishing it over the winter, and was amazed at the response from people interested in talking about it. I have taken my 85 vert to this same area(berlin turpike in connecticut) and no one seemed to care, the coupe had people around it all night! I know not many of either car are ever around but this coupe was a huge draw, people taking pictures of it etc. was a total suprise to me as I only fixed minor cosmetic and mechanical issues. very nice to see the car get so much attention at a 60-70's cruise night. And also a thanks to this forum for all the help as this is how I found most of my information, Henry helped with some parts also which were needed.
very exciting! it's nice to have people interested in your car. Fruits of your labor. congrats on getting it out and about. get some pics up in you album when you get a chance.

People stare and comment on mine everytime I take it out. Nobody has a clue what it is. When I go to the Gym I park it so I can see it while I'm lifting. Guys are always walking up and around it with curiosity. Had an '03 Mach want to race me on the way back from the Gym the other night. I just smiled and waved as he roared on by. Wish mine had the balls that Martinellis's has.
haha that's funny. Everytime I take the mach 1 out everyone wants to race me. had a guy in a bmw sportscar try it a few months back. he was reving and jumping forward while the light was red. of course my license plate "LSN2IT" doesn't help.
the guy took off like a bat out of hell and didn't see the police cruiser sitting on a side road. He got stopped about 400 feet later and I beat him to the next red.

What a cool thread. Hey, I'll add 3 cents... why not...
Having been 'Stangless for nearly 20 years and logging 800-or-so mostly enjoyable miles so far this spring, I'll say I'm somewhat surprised people aren't always trying to pick a race with the McMustang. Back in the day, everyone always wanted to race my '85 GT. Not sure what's changed over the years. The paint color is certainly loud enough, although the exhaust isn't. Hmmm. Maybe because it's lacking a Pro-Stock-sized hood scoop, 20-inch wheels, or the whine of a supercharger, it just doesn't scream 'race me' the way some other cars do.
While I have noticed being retina-frying-red it does tend to draw occasional attention from the plebes, perhaps the local street rats see a lumbering ragtop and figure it must be heavy and slow. Or they're showing respectful deference to its geriatric 22 years of age... or maybe they're making dangerous assumptions about the age of the driver who likely wouldn't be so irresponsible as to engage in illicit spontaneous racing activities (wrong answer bucko!). Honestly occifer... I was just on my way to a car show is all...
Have to admit I did recently encounter one punk with his hat on crooked, and a gold chain that looked like jumper cables, sporting a multi-colored Honda Civic. The rear wing was epic in every dimension and must've added incredible downforce around town... clearly stolen from Formula-1. Also worth noting the fart-can muffler with a diameter the size of a small pizza, and ride height so low it was a requirement to swerve for a chipmunk to save the oilpan.
Anyhow, this particular genius did go ripping by at about 80-in-a-45, (unfortunately no cop anywhere to be found - typical) weaving in and out of traffic just to prove that 3 gerbils really can get to 40,000RPM... man, was I jealous. I suspect he wanted to race. I didn't want to spill my Big-Gulp.
Of course I also realize that the average family sedan these days makes more than 225HP... (imagine - that was a lot in the late '80s... how time flys), but gearing, reaction time, and a definite willingness to ring the scrawny cast-iron neck out of all 5-liters lounging under hood does make a difference in the stoplight Grand Prix. Next time grandma with the Dodge Caravan decides it's on... I'm telling you... I'll be ready.

Almost no one 'tempts or challenges' the McLaren at red lights, but, for some strange reason, they seem to all want to f**k with my Corvette.
Especially 'hat on backwards with a Stinger Muffler' crowd. Bad move. The Vette is very, very quick. Don't do it very often or when the wife is in the car. She hates speed. But it is very gratifying to whip some punks arse!!
Just the 'Kid' in me.
Growing old is inevitable. Growing up is optional!

I was the Supervisor of Maching for TRW, in Warren, Michigan and one of my employees retired. A great machinist from the 40's, when everything was actually done by people. His name was Jimmy Rollin and he lived on Tater Peeler Rd after his retirement. I have the greatest respect for his abilities and attitude. He retired around 1975 and I left there in 1977. Heard from him a few times in the next 10 years, then nothing!

"" Every time I stop for Gas people Gawk and stop and ask questions. That is why I love this car. Its pretty cool to have a car that very few others have. ""
Havoc, all my life, I had what others might call Odd-ball cars. I seem to like being different and not conforming to the brands, styles or types of things that the masses know so well and purchase.
When I was young, say mid twenties, I wanted luxury cars. But, a G.M. Cadillac was just waaay too common, likewise a FoMoCo Lincoln. I went straight to Chrysler Corp's. Imperial, of which I owned 5, beginning with 1968, then a 1972, then a 1974, then a 1976 and lastly, a 1982.
Then I got "old" and wanted "kids-Kars" ~ But, a Camaro, or an import or a GTO was just way too commom! So, at the ripe old age of 41 I bought the 1st ascMcLaren, followed my 2 more.
So, 'ya, I understand 100%
