Newbie with questions!

Post by Ragdoll »

Hey all, I'm a former short time owner. Had an 89 black w/grey int. back in 96, unfortunately only had it for a few months before it I lost it to my ex (long story).

Anyways, would love to get another and pretty set on it being at least the black ext, int doesn't much matter.

Saw one on the asc site for sale for $5k but it is in Washington which is quite a ways from me here in Wisconsin so I'd have no idea how to get it here besides fly out and drive it back here. Not to mention getting it checked out and all.

Any tips? How often do you guys see them pop up? I've been lurking for at least a year and just decided to join so I could talk to you guys.

Thanks!! :D

Hi Ragdoll... allow me to be the first to say - 'welcome back!'. As rare as these cars are, they still do tend to come up for sale fairly often. Three places to check continually are eBay, Craigslist, and Hank at Paradise Automotive who runs the site ascmclaren.com who many forum members here have had positive results dealing with. His site has a 'Cars for Sale' section which seems to be updated regularly.

I'm sure others here have additional recommendations on places to check. Cars.com and Autotrader.com occasionally have a McLaren pop up as well. Even though I already have one, I still frequently look... mostly just for kicks.

5K will actually buy a fairly decent one with patience and a willingness to travel for the right car. If you find one that's distant that you have a strong interest in, there are numerous independent inspection companies who, for a reasonable fee, will provide you with a comprehensive write-up and professional opinion of the vehicle, including all noted flaws.

There are also tons of buying tips, as well as maintenance and operational recommendations you'll find by searching the archives here. I know I can personally say this site has been an extremely valuable source of information... as well as frequently entertaining. Good luck finding your 'new' car! :D

I appreciate the welcome. The one on the ascmclaren.com site looks nice, however I don't know how I'd get it here! Really, I wish I could locate my car, but who knows, maybe it will show up. It was sold to a specialty dealer back then and then resold.

So if anyone sees a black one please do let me know, I'll be keeping up with the site as I can.

Welcome back! I looked for months before I found my McLaren, and it was just a few miles from the house. I found it in the local paper.

We just had my sis-in-laws car shipped from NY to Phoenix for $700. Our local Mustang club has gotten calls and we have called other clubs to see if they could check a car out for us. It has always worked well.

Good luck

I had not thought of that. Perhaps that would be an option, to have a mustang person check it out and then ship it, that's not that much to do so, especially compared to a flight and gas etc.

There are lots of forums with Mustang experts. At least someone could swing by and take a look for you. FEP is a good source to find locals but they don't focus on non-four eyed cars. Chaulky comes to mind as well as Rob who is a MCA judge are in the Washington State area. They probably already know the car.
