Cold

Post by Sandy »

The really 1st day of it being COLD outside. Everybody wearing heavier coats, some with gloves. Wind is colder than the temps, which are dropping fast.
BRRRrrrrr. Me no like. Bottle Babies (like me) really feel the cold.
Dr. tells me to wear layers, to keep warm... Wish I had a place in Southern Florida, to "nest" for 5 months. We bought a seperate freezer to be able to stock up, and we have a man to plow out the driveway, and do the sidwewalk.
I can no longer do that stuff. I did it for 26 years, here, at our home. Now I see why we old folks go south, like the birds.

You're fighting a great fight. Keep it up!!

I moved back to Florida in 1977. I was 39. I was sick of the cold.

Actually I left Michigan to join the Air Force in 1955. Got stationed in Florida, after 13 months in Northern Canada, in 1958. Stayed after active duty was over (The first time). Went Back to Michigan in 1961. Stayed till 1977. Had enough!! Have no desire to live anywhere else. While in Michigan I got called back to active duty 10-25-62. Cuban missile crises. Got sent back to Florida. Stayed till 3-31-63 and went back to Michigan.

So I've actually spent more time in Florida than anywhere else! But it's not for everybody.

Ya, I would tend to shy away from Miami and tourist places. I think that I would check out northern Fla. But...... it's all just talk. I am way too lazy to move. I like our nest. It's paid for, and it's a duplex. The tenants pay our taxes, so the house costs us just heat, warter, & telephones. Oh, 'ya, and our gardner & snow plower. It's very convenient, located close to everywhere I go. Good eateries, shiopping, mauls ( ) and any & all else.

I don't like the cities at all. If you look at a map of Florida, or type 'Hudson, Fl 34667' into a Google Search you'll see where we live. We're actually closer to Spring Hill and we're sure not a tourist area. We're east of Aripeka and US19. Not much growth in our area. Yet. Almost everyone here has 2.5 acres or more.

Hate going down to St. Pete/Clearwater area. Traffic is horrendous. Last time down there it took 25 minutes to go 6 miles on a main road, and we made no turns!

NC has a lot of people who moved to Florida from the northeast, moving here now.

It's not as hot and no hurricanes. The coldest we see is high 20's during a few nights. During the day, usually not much colder than 40's.

I am gonna go look at Hudson Fla. - only because you posted a way to do sol ~
Actually, I like where we are. The addition of a 2nd Fridg/Freezer will make life ALOT better.

In my area of Northern NJ IF Key word: IF) you are a multi millionaire, there are 2 places that compete for you. Valet Parking indoors in heated garage, under 24 hour guards. Ultra plush accomodations of living, fireplaces, pools, huge rooms, balconies, every known *and yet UNknown) conveniences, and since most are retired, underground level fully stocked supermarket, wine celler and you pick out whatever you want and they bring it up to your apartment. Outdoors are several pools, tennis, basketball courts, golf range, and every unit has a real fireplace, and and and and Car washing service, waxing service, and and and.... The bedrooms aare 15 x 22 feet the Grande Room is 20X30 feet. There are 2 ful baths per unit, eacg 12X10 feet.
There are also newpaper/magazine stores on ground floor, all marble flooring throughout, and tons more.

WE ARE NOT moving there. :( But, that IS living, everything at your fingertips w/out going out in the cold, snow, rain, storms.....A self Contained "Town"
It's name is The Castle on the mountaintop.
It's a million for 1 bedroom, 1 mil 600 Thou for 2 bedroom, and 2 mill for 3 bedrooms. The PentHouse has 6 "Pents" at 5 .2 million
