BetterPrivacy
Ghostery
Greasemonkey
NoScript

And no, I personally DO NOT use any 'social networking' 'sites.

I only use facebook to talk to friends and family members. Great way to keep track of old friends and cousins. You would be crazy to put much info on there. Same as any networking site.

As soon as you log into any site to do something, they have you. It's all linked up and done behind the scenes. All ebay has to do, once you log in, is send Facebook your email address. If you have used the same email over at Facebook, they've linked it up.

The Private Browsing modes help somewhat in normal browsing.

There are some open source Social Networking apps starting to gain traction. You would basically host your profile and info on your home machine or on any place on the web you can find space.

This would allow you to have full control.

Dunno if they will ever take off.

I was reading an article on wsj.com about the FTC and a 'do-not-track' system they're pushing, and noticed a sidebar in the article about some unique information 'sites grab from you as soon as you go there:

Here's a guy trying to "fingerprint" every PC and cellphone, on TV box. He's up to 200 million so far, and expects to be at 1B (out of ~10B) this year...
