fog light covers

Post by 86ASCCoupe20 »

Good morning all, I need to get a set of lens covers for my Hella fog lights for my 86 Mclaren coupe. What are the correct ones that i need? Are they the ones that say 550 or is there supposed to be no number on the cover it self. Thanks for any help.

Sandy has covers that say 181 on them.

The covers I have do not have anything on them:

Mine attach by using the BMW/Audi nubbins that are screwed into the light covers. These nubbins snap into two circular areas on the back of the covers.

I have no idea how Sandy's works.

Dunno if the 550s are the same size or not?

Mine slip on and when they are 98% covered, something snaps them down & into proper posistion.

I sent an email to the person with the 550 lens covers to see what size they are. I should just get the plain ones but if I am patient I am sure the 181s will show up. There is one on ebay now. Is it possible, Sandy, that yours being a later built car has the 181s and that an earlier car could have a different number or no number at all?

Absolutly possible. ascMcLaren used more than one supplier several times. I have even seen Non-Alpine stereo in the dash of original owner's cars.

I found them very hard to obtain. AT THE TIME, there was an area distribution center for Hella products. I found their number & called them and asked ther lady if they had any fog light COVERS for my model # (which I obtained off the lens of the fog light. She told me they had ONE (1) set, left.
We were under a Tornado watch, it was 2:30 in the afternoon- it was so damn dark the street lites were ON !! My Late Mom begged me not to go !
I told her I HAVE TO GO. I went. The rain stayed away for the entire trip (30 miles) but it was windy and crap was blowing all over the streets once I left the Garden State Pkwy. But, I got 'em & made it home, okay.
I never admitted it, but I was scared tulips ' cause just 3 miles west trees were falling down !! Wind was at 35-40 MPH Sky was BLACK.
PS/ The nice lady gave them to me for free, and told me to be very careful going home. Yes, i am nuts.
BY THE WAY, a car w/out covers is still a 100 pt car (if everything else is flawless, as the covers were NOT included the the car at original delivery to the 1st owner. Never were part of the 1985/1986 Merc. Capri COUPE. I think MAYBE the came on the Capri 'Verts, as i have seen many more covers on the Verts, than on the COUPES !!

My Mom'a 1978 Imperial LeBaron with the Crown St. Regis roof with sun roof and all options, even the Road Wheels.
My folks ONLY bought Imperials, as did I - in 1968, 1971, 1972 and 1974.
It's a very long story, all about our family, and the Cry-Co.
Chrysler Corporation. Some other time. I loved that car, BTW. I owned 4 Imps, myself, prior to catching McLaren-itis.

My wife and I only had one Chrysler in our lifetime. It was a 97 town and Country minivan. She drove real nice and comfortable. We grew out of the minivan stage.

My late Dad, was a silent-partner in a 3-man owned I.C.P. store, in the 1960s thru the 1970's, which included a cousin in the family. They were not involved in the day-to-day goings on there. Sandy worked there in sales.
The cousin was a doctor, my father was a lawyer. Sandy was a car salesman, jocky, used car lot watchee, and good will ambassador, handling the advertising, the books (no- I did not "cook" them....

It was a little unassuming small dealership, not a big inventory wham bam highway whore-house. We treated folks like family. We sold ALOT of Imperials to the Doctor's friends & my Dad's lawyer friends. Those were good days. During that time, I drove only Imperials as did Mom & Dad and the Cousin & his wife. My Mom did Thanksfgiving, every year for family and we had 3 to 5 Imperials in the driveway and another 3 to4 parked on the street. Dad joked that we had more on our property & in the street than there were in the whole country we resided in !!!

I.C.P. = Imperial, Chrysler & Plymouth.

I found a picture on the web of my Mom's car, but hers was all black, vinyl top & body with burgundy velour & velvet interior, with sun roof & road wheels that are not on the picture below (IF it works !)
