Guys with collector car insurance come on in.

Post by 86capriasc »

So I'm trying to set up my policy with Hagerty and they say the 10k value I want on it is too high. They want documentation for that value. WTF, if I'm paying the premium for the value what's the deal? Since I did my own paint work, and all the work on the car how the hell do I prove it?

What are you guys carrying for value?

I'm not with hagerty............ but I do have mine insured for $10K. Mine simply asked me what I wanted to insure it for. I'm pretty sure I couldn've gone higher if I had wanted to......

Insurance

Post by svo413 »

Like every other company these days the insurance companies have tighten the reins a bit. I have American Modern which I got from Ford in 2004. They had no problem putting my SVO down for $18K, 67 Tbird for $15K, an the McLaren for $10K. A few years ago I tried to raise the SVO to $20-$25K and the balked saying they needed an appraisal for over $20K. I added my 89 LX vert. a year ago and they flat out refused anything over $4.5K. I told them I paid $4.5K. You would think they would just take you money and be happy. Total $269 per year for all.

I'm waiting to hear back from Grundy now too. They are actually cheaper anyway. I just don't understand the issue, it seems everyone carries the same kind of agreed value that I want yet they are questioning it. I have sent pics of the car with the new paint. I did have a car dealer-collector-body shop owner appraise it today for 10k.

I have the 3 ascMcLarens AND my 1993 Fleetwood Sixty Special **- each at $ 10,000 if total loss for $ 1,000.00 @ year premium.
I have never made a claim. I have now been with them 8 years.
They have never raised my premium. They have made $8,000 on me & that is A-OK with me. Better they make money, than I get a check !!

Miserable experience with Hagerty. I used to deal with Parrish (GREAT people!) and Hagerty bought them some years back.

Told them I couldn't remember if my nearly three year-old (and ready to drop off) five-over ticket was April or May and instructed them to check my driving record to which they agreed and said "close is okay".

Three years later, I had a small $300 claim on my old Corvette and they denied it, stating I "lied" on my application, so they refunded all my paid premiums.

Okay, fixed the damage with the $1300+ refund check AND sicced the Michigan Insurance Commission on them. See, they're based here and subject to the State...

I used to take my (laminated) letter from the State explaining their findings Hagerty acted in "bad faith" and improperly, to car shows and display it in my window--always parking as close as possible to the Hagerty tent....

Many fine choices: Hagerty is NOT one of them.

I have had hagerty w/ agreed value at 12k and it was 230 last year and now it's gone up to 360 to renew in July. It seems hagerty removed some sections from the new policy but doesn't print in the updated version what's removed. I'm going to be looking at Grundy shortly.
