ascMcLaren Camaro convertible

Post by slimwhitman »

For those of you that did not know... ascMcLaren also built Camaro and Firebird Convertibles in '85 & '86. I have seen a few with the ASC-McLaren sticker. The seller states this is a prototype, but it is just a dealer ordered convertible like all the Capri/Mustang ascMcLaren convertibles.

That is really rare, because all of the photos of them, that I have ever seen, illustrate the car in Red with Tan Leather interior, and a Black top.
Is this car in its original paint color?

I would say ascMcLaren built about 100 of them each year (85 & 86), based on the amount of them I have seen over the years. For early 1987 models, the label in the door jamb lost the "McLaren" and became just "ASC" (ASC had been converting many cars like the Monte Carlo, Toronado, '79-83 Eldorado and others with the "ASC" label for years for dealers that were not "factory" offerings). The early '87 ASC Camaro convertibles were still non-factory approved items that the Chevy dealer direct ordered from ASC.

All these '85 to early '87 Camaro convertibles by ascMcLaren/ASC used the same basic design that was used for the ASC built, but GM factory authorized mid year '87 Camaro convertible that lasted into the '90s. They also built non-factory approved ASC Firebird convertibles for dealers from '85-'89 as well.
