1985 Convert Rear Springs
1985 Convert Rear Springs
My 1985 SC seems to be riding a little low in the rear. this is an original numbers matching 17k mile car and would like to replace the springs with NOS parts. Can anyone help with part numbers would this be a stock Ford item or were they replaced by ASC?
Great Debate
I have aske the question in the past if the Capri based convertable were lowered and have got a mixed responce. I bought the car 5 years ago and have driven it less than 150 mile in that time. I noticed that the car sits lower in the back and when i was going through all the original paper work I have a warrantty repair from 1986 when the LM dealership replaced the front struts and springs. My thinking was the front springs where replaced with "Stock" Ford spring and not "ASC" springs. I just want to get it right, the car is so original and I am slight case of OCD.
Sounds about right. My car's ass sat in the air until I called hank and got a set of asc springs.
Now the edge of all 4 wheel openings are within 1/4" difference from the ground.
Somebody changed the rears at one point with stockers.

Ok today I went to Mr H. Storch's house. We talked for almost 3 hours about his time at ASC. What I got from him was Capris ONLY got the springs verts and coupes. Also 2 types of springs were used early (how early was unclear) cars got a spring that was too stiff so they switched to the motorsport spring. He did not know what part number. Im sure sandy is right and it is the "B" spring. I hope this helps make another gray area of our cars a little more black and white.[/b]

That's all you learned in 3 hours????
I think you're holding out on us!!!
So the Capris got the springs and the Mustangs did not. Do we know if Ford may have put different springs on the Mustangs so maybe asc didn't have to?
Somebody with a stock Mustang asc needs to measure their height and go to a show and find a stock 87+ Mustang GT and measure the height.

Lol I wish I was better with my words. He told me sooooo many stories but by the time I type them up you will all be confused by my dyslexic wrighting. He did not remember doing wheel alignments to the mustangs he said they were all stock suspensions.
He did ask me about the prototype coupe. He said an ASC employee bought that car and it was stollen sometime after that. They never found the car from what he remembered. The 86 coupe for sale right now was for sure stock with the power sliding sun roof. The only 1 they ever made.
If you guys can think of any questions for him please make a list. I was invited back any time and he lives half a mile from my work and only a few miles from my house.

"B" Spring is correct.
I wish I lived so close to him. You are lucky, Peter !
Listen, I have 2 Ford ascMcLaren converts. Both are 100% as new.
I will measure from the concrete floor to the point of thr rear spoiler
(point beinging the edge of the spoiler as it faces your tummy)
and will post later, today as to how many inches they are.
Both are 100% 0iginal & bone stock. Final car made (Azura Blue) and 1 of two "25th Silver Anniversary Editions" intenders.
Azura has 2,300 miles, Silver Anniversary has 8,200 miles.
Both are virgin originals. One is here, at home, the other is 4 miles away in "Car Condo". Later on ~ but, today.

Yeah, floor to bottom edge of the wheel well.
Actually, the CENTER OF THE WHEEL to the bottom of the wheel well. This removes differences in wheel/Tire height between the cars.
DO YOUR asc COUPE TOO!!!
If the stangs are the same height as your coupe, then something still doesn't jive.
