New Shoes...

Post by shelbyscarab »

Nick,

Thanks. 17x9's w/255s all around??? and those fit on a McLaren:?: or is that a '93 Cobra they are on? I'm ready to buy this week and would like to have them on before the Woodward Dream cruise.

How was your dealings with AFS out of California online?, thats where I'm looking at buying from thru Ebay.

knstang, I'll bet those Saleen wheels look great, I'd like to see a picture. You really opened up doors for yourself converting to 5-lug.[/quote]

Those fit on my '88 McLaren. Just tell AFS what you are putting it on and they will be able to help you out. IMO ask them before you buy about size preference and ask them about their warranty on the Chrome wheels. Mine started to peel after a few years! They were great getting the wheels out to me in NY and customer relations.

Oh also I am not to sure how well it works but I saw 5 lug adaptor kits for these cars. I just sent out an inquiry to one place today just to see how it works.

I have pics in my album. I get compliments all the time. The aspect ratio of the 18+9 came out to be close to the stock 15inch aspect ratio. Someone here posted a link to a site that gives you the rpm difference of the wheel switch

knsstang,

The 18x9s look too good on your car (and they'll look great on my blue one) so I'm going to look into those. A couple of questions first. #1 -Mclarens already came with a lowered stance moreso than a GT, did you lower yours even more? or is it Mclaren stock height? #2 - Did you use that $150 wheel spacer/conversion block (that just showed up here) that gives you the 5 lug or did you completely swap out your rotors for 5 lug?

Before I spend $1,100 I want to be absolutely sure this will all fit. :|

Thanks for answering all these questions,

Chris

Not the 87-90 cars. Only the 84-86 Coupes were to get lowering springs.

Maybe the added weight of the reinforcement brought the car down a tad?

Actually the '87-90's are lowered.

IMO the larger wheel closed the gap in between the fender and makes it appear even lower then normal with the 18x9's.

For an assortment of needs Karkraft is an awesome site. Not sure if these will fit but check out these wheels called Stallions at:

http://www.karkraft.com/closeouts!.htm

Also almost new Bullit style wheels with 5 miles on tires that fit the newer style Mustang '05 and better. If the add I posted on the offsets ($150) is correct this wheel will fit our vehicles with the adapter. Check it out.

The person I bought the car from told me his son lived in California and had it lowered, I thought it would rub but it doesn't. It sat on the 15inch rims the same way. I bought the spindles off of a 96GT and they swapped right in. The rear axles are out of an 89 ranger, I bought those from the junkyard for 50 dollars each. The axles also swapped right in( it took me thirty minutes to install both). I bought the matching rotors from Murrays for about 15 dollars. I am going to try the rear disc conversion next year. I bought the rims off the internet from Mustang tuning.com. I paid 775.00 for the 4 rims. They are heavy though...Each rim weighs 25 pounds. I hope that info helps

Sorry, you are right. I don't know why I keep thinking that they are not.

I used to always get confused with the cam issue. That is only on the coupes and not the verts. Oh another thing I noticed after necessity of my car being painted and viewing knsstang's car was that the ASC McLaren's on the '87-90 vehicles use both the LX and GT bodyside molding at the same time! Notice the LX has a thinner flat section then the GT's. This is the area they used to place striping in I am referring too.

I'm running the 4 lug Cobra R's with Nitto Extreme 245/45/17's all around. I get a VERY minor rub at full suspension travel in the front. Nothing I can complain about.

Really woke up the cars looks...I like the stockers but couldn't resist the R's.

Thanks for the help asc709.......

I've been waiting for more input. Yea, I agree, the Cobra Rs just look too damn good. Hell, I'd love to go to 18x9s, but I'd be dreaming.....anyway, its 2006 and I can't believe I haven't changed the rims in 18 yrs, on top of that its only on its 2nd set of rubber......

Its too bad, we don't have more choices for rims, I suppose we would if we converted to 5-lug.......but....

Nice tires you've put on. I've been impressed by the Nittos....Not sure what brand I'm going to go with yet, up to this point I've been figuring out what size rim I can get away with. I'll probably put 235s on the front and 245s or 255s on the rear. Do you have 17x8s all around or do you have 17x9s in the rear?

By the way, I have car #688 of 1988, ours weren't made too far apart.

Thanks,
Chris

I have the 17x8's all the way around. I love the Nitto's. They grip really well and feel great. It's like driving another car.

I wonder if the 2 cars were on the line together some time or another.

My mistake...17" x 9"'s all around...Barely any rubbing at full suspension travel.

I only have 1 complaint. The track width out back looks a bit "wimpy" compared to the front. Some 3/4" in spacers would do nice.

ASC709,

where can I view your car again?

REALLY?! 17x9 all around? I didn't think that would fit, you say you have mild rubbing, but not much. I'm impressed. I think I'm going to go with 17x8s w/235s in the front and 17x9s w/255s in the rear.

If your not having any trouble with your 17x9s all around, I feel much better. I was leary about ordering wheels and not haveing them fit.

Thanks
