if your were to set up 1 national asc show you would have a very small turn out. you would be better off setting up regional asc shows. i have brought this up in previous posts. the best bet to get maximum asc cars would be to set up 4 or 5 asc shows in different locations. michigan, kansas city, new jersey/new york were the 3 biggest markets for asc's sold so those areas have the most cars in the nation & you would get a decent turn out with the right amount of promotion.

i for one would travel for a asc meet in the mid west area, but would not travel any further for a show.
i think the dream cruise weekend in michigan is as good as place as any.
we were able to get 8 asc's with very little promotion & bad weather.
had we gotten the word out more & had good weather we probably would have had about 15 to 20 asc's there.

Yea, I agree. The regional shows are probably the way to go.

also, I think more time needs to pass to get more of the ASCs in collectors hands, or simply "car lovers" hands. I believe quite a few of them were used as daily drivers the first 5-10 years, and not taken care of.

Ok, I haven't heard much about this and I thought if anyone is interested, now is the time to talk about it to plan for Spring or Summer.

ASC regional rallies (not necessarily a car show).

Through past discussions, it was brought up that regional shows would garner more cars than one big national show. Although it would be cool maybe one year plan a large event for the whole country. For getting the whole idea off the ground what about starting with regional shows of East - West - Midwest? Dividing the country in 3??

There are quite a few other car clubs/registries that have regionals that their group is composed of a number of cars similiar to ours (3,000 made or less, including GP IVs) I saw in a recent mag, that Saleen had their 3rd or 4th regional show this past year.

Guys,

For NY/NJ/CT/Eastern PA may I suggest meeting at the Garden State Region Mustang/Ford show at the ROute 23 Automall in Butler NJ. The show is late April/early May on a Sunday. I will post the date when I get it. At the fall show, I was the only McLaren there.

This show pulls in some of the finest MCA & AACA cars from the area. Well worth the trip.

One suggestion, put yourself in the stock Mustang class, unless you have a Capri. I let them put me in Special Interest Ford, which was stupid. If I was serious about competing, I would have asked the show chairman to override the placement.

West Coast Car Show...

I am making plans to attend and participate in the Fabulous Ford's Forever car show held at Knott's Berry Farm April 22nd. Many members from FEP appear to be doing the same. If anyone else with a ascMcLaren is going, I sure would like to see your car and meet you in person.

Hope to see some of you there... :blob:

Bob, how can one put them self into a "Stock Mustang" Class, WITH an ascMcLaren?

Also, what's new with yours ?? ?? ??

I bought a muffler, but have not yet had it installed.

Found a great place in Livingston, that will weld it.

It's a stock 1990-1993 Mustang LX with V-8 left side muffler.

They mostly work on Lotus, Ferrari, and Alfa Romeo cars, but are
familair with all cars. EuroTech is the name.

I will do it in April - 90 days from now

Let's get into plan mode here. Key points:

Who is available to make it? Make sure we have enough people to participate.

When will it be? When is most convienant for us all?

Were do we have it? Were are our members located (focus on the concentrated areas). See if there are any existing shows we can enter within that area. If not can we set up our own get together at another location?

How are we going to set it up? Who is going to facilitate it for each location? How are we going to have continuity or communication so we can share learning experiences so we dont make the same mistakes twice, or how to make it even better when one region is waiting to still have their party.

Why? Fratinize with other owners. Perhaps we can have printed up list of participating members with name, number, email address, vehicle owns, background, for networking. Maybe we can have information packets made up on our cars so we can get our story out there of our cars to others.

Costs incurred? What costs might we expect and how to cover it? Such as park fees, car show entrance fees, information handouts, should we have custom key chains made, etc... Perhaps members pay in advance so others dont get stiffed if no shows?

Please add onto or comment.

Sandy,

Well, it'll be nice to get ol' blue back on the road. As for the ASC classification, here is my reasoning. The car was sold new from Ford in it's condition. Just as Saleen Mustangs are. And if it's in stock condition (or close enough), it should go in a stock Mustang class, just like SVO's, Pace Cars, SVT Cobras, 20th Anniversary's, etc. And if it's modified, it should go into the modified Mustang class. No way it should go into Special Interest, and line up with T-Birds, etc.

As for my McLaren, I got in back together late last season and was able to drive it a bit. It took some doing to remove all the stereo equipment and non-working alarm system from the car. And repair all the damage those installs did. The one thing I did do was retro-fit a 1993 Mustang amp, 2000 Mustang cassette and CD combo into the car. I replaced a good measure of the wear items (weatherstrip, bushings, shocks/struts, etc). I'm still trying to find a nice set of blue sunvisors that will STAY UP!!!! And a driver's side seat belt that will fully retract. I want to buy a new rear spoiler and two header pieces from Henry. Finally, I really want to get into the engine compartment and do a repaint and some major detailing. And finish off all the bolt-on mods I want to do.

Or sell it and the Cobra or Cruiser an buy a twin turbo V8 Lotus Espirit. Or sell everything and buy a hut in Key West.

STOP

You will NEVER get the driver-side shoulder belt to fully retract. NOBODIES does. It's a sorta kinda design flaw, (I think).
You can manually spool it back up about 2 feet.

Sandy,

What do you mean, STOP???? ABout thinking of selling everything and living in a hut in Key West, or just selling 2 of my 3 play cars and buying a Lotus of some sort? Or about fixing the seat belt? There is a TSB out on it. As we get closer to spring, I'll buy a subscription to the TSB web site and get a copy. I don't care if I have to disassemble the whole bloody thing, but I will get it to retract. Or die trying. It pisses me off!!! If worst comes to worst, I can replace both sides with belts from the later Fox convertibles that have the retractors mounted on the floor behind the front seats. Not stock, but 99 44/100% of show judges wouldn't know the difference.

Then after all that is done, I go after every single stupid rattle in that damn car!!! I already got rid of a bunch of them when I stripped out the aftermarket door speakers. Lined the whole thing with Dynamat! The doors close like a Mercedes now. I think when I replace the header weatherstrip and the two cracked big assed pieces of plastic along the top of the windshield (the inside piece, not the outside windshield frame which is perfect), I'll get rid of a bunch more.

You warned me about the 88's. I shoulda held out for a 90, but I couldn't turn this one down for the price.

And someday, when I do the paint, it'll be ALMOST acceptable. Then, I'll sell it. And start the whole stupid process over again with some new car. At least it keeps me out of bars.

Count me in on the east coast.
It would be nice to have a group of like cars. last season I was at the ALL FORD Carlisle PA show and there was a separate class for the Saleen's but I was put in the Capri class which consisted of all Capri's. The Euro's from the 70's and the Fox's from the 80's.
I'm definitely going again this year regardless of classification. It is an awsome show. This year were going to stay over night. unlike last year where we came and went the same day.
I was with my brother in laws 06 yellow Saleen and he belongs to the YMR (Yellow Mustang Registry). They are open to all year/style Mustangs as long as there yellow. They had a nice turn out and at the end of the day they all took a beautiful cruise through the back roads along the river and ended up at a members house who hosted a nice BBQ. They were nice enough to let me follow along with the cruise and BBQ although i felt like a black spot on a very large banana with my black car.Image

he he he :D

When you have every last squeek & rattle out, I wanna hear it. It will be the first such specimin on earth. My blue one has a soft squeek from the header panel, but only sometimes. I'ts been there since new. My Silver one doesn't have any squeeks, but has a ka-knock from passenger's door on right turns. This goes away IF I lower the passenger window. Go Figure. My Town Car can fly over the Kenilworth RR tracks in the cold of winter without so much as a peep nor creep.
My son's Cherokee squeeks going down the GSP at 50 on the newly paved smooth as satin part  On RR tracks it sounds like an UmPa band's instruments all fell off the shelf together !

Whats wrong with 88's? I love mine and dont have any problems with squeaks. In fact I let my friend drive it and he was so impressed on how well put together these cars are. He had plenty of other fox convertibles as well as a few sn95 convertibles to compare it with. I did add subframe connectors to my car, but the car was pretty tight to begin with.
