Well I got my response from the person. All I can say is I hope he really doesnt need the money that bad. I still cant imagine how someone could take a car like that with only 5k miles and molest it the way it is. I actually feel bad for the owner and the car, better yet the whole situation. Oh well.

Nick

Response: "Unfortunately no pics of interior. No door panels, wiring harness modified to move windows and door locks to center console. One Recaro racing bucket seat with six-point Simpson racing harness. Never been raced or abused. 5k on chassis - 0 on new drivetrain parts. 1992 - I made the mid-wing myself, I don't know of another in existence."

Out of curiosity how can you tell if a car got the recaros or radar detector in the first place?

Also when considering how many cars are out there like yours do you consider it by year or total production? In other words this car is 1 of 68, but if there was another one made just like it in 89 would that factor in? Thanks.

Go figure I just noticed looking at the pics again there are no door handles. He also shaved the door handles for that sleeker look. He did invest allot of time and money in this over the years but still he is trying to capitalize on the fact of low miles but the point is mute when it would cost more to return it to stock. Heck the car isnt driveable in the first place who knows what else can be wrong with it.

I think Sandy has option info for each car when given the VIN #. I know overall, manual transmissions were more rare. This car did have a manual which by itself makes it much more rare, probably like 1 of 10 or so, again Sandy probably knows. And then factor in it has the Recaro seats (or did have them), then its probably like 1 of 4 or 5 I would bet. I know that of the 1015 '88s they stopped installing the recaros early in the production cycle. I don't think ANY '88s had the whistler radar option....another question for Sandy.

"how many cars are out there like yours a consideration" . A year is a year. Sure there may be a different year with the same combo scheme, but in my eyes a year is year. When I say mine was 1 of 51, that is for '88 only. In my eyes, concerning rarity, I'd like to have a '87, '89, or '90 just because they made so few unlike the '88s.........

Thanks for the help Shelbyscarab. I agree with wanting another year ASC and some day I will, but just think cause they made so many in '88 we have an opportunity to own one in the first place.

Oy Vey. Got me working overtime.

1). When I say 1 of 68 I am speaking only of THAT model YEAR.
2) I too got a reply. He is in Florida. The Car is in West Orange, N.J. Of course I couldf not be told WHERE..... Private Info
3) I have how each car was built > optionwise > paint color > interior color > roof color > options > sequence # of build AND VIN.
4) For 1988 1,015 were made in total. Of those 27.80% -or- 282 were 5-Speed Stick & 72.20% were automatic (733).
5) 201 (19.80%) had Radar & 814 did NOT have Radar
6) 083 (8.20%) had Recaros, and 91.80% or 932 had Sport Seats.
7) Roofs: 301 Atlantic Blue / 580 Black / 38 Claret-Wine / 96 Tan.
Eleven Black units had Recaros. 5 were in Dark Charcoal (car in question) .... 4 had Sand Beige ..... 2 had Scarlet Red

Recaros did last most of the model year. They went out beginning with car # 838 or about 83% of the way thru production.
Car # 869 was retro fitted with Scarlet (Red) Recaros, before it left the ascMcLaren plant. No other unit was made after # 838 with Recaros.
(When I say 838, I mean the real actual sequence of build number, not what the dash plaque says, which are all out of order for 1988. It's CORRECT dash plaque # woulda shoulda been # 1317. I am sure it's long gone missing !!)
Sandy passed away in 2012. He will be forever missed.

1990 Final Car prior to the 12 Silver Anny Editions
1990 Silver Pearl Anny Edition
1986 Coupe Full Pkg #109 of 114.

Wow, I was pretty damn close, actually I was right on. 1 of 5 based on the color combination and the Recaro seats. However, Sandy didn't identify how many of those 5 cars were auto vs. manual. This could be even more rare.

With that information, it would be extremely sad to see this car crushed or parted out. It sucks that they shaved the door handles.

Sandy,

My question is how can you tell which car had the recaros or radar detectors? I mean whats to stop someone with an 88 from dropping either one in their car and saying it came stock? How can you prove or disprove that? VINs dont tell that information, do you have a master production list or something? If so wouldnt that show were each car was ordered/delivered too?
