Yellow '89

Hey, I just took another look at the '89 Gold make ups. THIS car was the only Gold one with a black top and gray interior! Its still rare, but again, its too bad a rare gold one was sacrificed for this special order.

I know, who cares, but its just too bad that they didn't have a White with gray interior sitting there too be used........

It took place after ascMcLaren had received all of their cars, and there were only 2 handfulls of cars, left. The buyer wanted a car >> YESTERDAY, and did not wanna wait ! As said, the remaing cars were equipped with blue or red interiors. This car was done and was Royal Gold with the light & medium Titanium Grey interior & a black top. The original ordering dealer changed his mind after eyeballing the car, and wiggled out of the deal. The original buyer opted for the grey, black & yellow and ascMcLaren did it. I telephoned a contact who worked at ascMcLaren and still lives near there, this afternoon, and he recalls the story. As far as he can recall, it's the only car that ascMcLaren did and then did again. Fast Forward to the Mustang version, and we do know about the bowling ball shoe car and the college football and all purpose "parade convertible" which were also customs made by ascMcLaren.

If I only had it all to do over again....mine would have been a 1990 in Coral Red (Pink Metallic) with the new-for-'90 WHITE leather and a white (vinyl) top & the white wheels! YIPIEEEEEeeeee !

PS Mary Kay triple pink, lol jk I still would love to see the British racing green with tan top and interior. Also would be neat to see the 7-Up theme on a 90 McLaren, emerald green, white interior, white top.

The British Racing Green with Sand Beige & Tan top resides somewhere in the Carolinas or Virginia. The owner of it is a retired Ford Dealer. The car also has the Gold Trimmed wheels. I understand she is "mint".

Perhaps do a search on here for Bowling Shoe Car and / or College Football Parade car.

Trust me ... they are ugly.

Briefly, the Bowling Shoe car was ordered by a well-to-do man who owned a few bowling alleys. He requested she be painted like a bowling shoe. The sides were red, the hoos & deck lid Black, the top Black, the interior red. The black hood & deck were tied together by painting the upper 2" of the body black.

The college parade car was for a New England Colllege, (I never knew whch one). They wanted a patriotic theme. The car was white, the interior was red and the top was dark blue. These were both 1988s.

I recently saw a Porsche convertible in that there Coral Red (Pink Metallic) with maroon leather and a maroon soft top.

I FLIPPED. I could NOT take my eyes off of it. That is a breathtakingly stunning color for sure. But, with the white leather & whte top & white wheels, a showpiece, for sure.
It's got more "red" in it, than a "normal" pink, it's like a redish pink and a very very high metallic pigmentation, almost like Cadillac's Firemist paints or Lincoln's Stardust paints of the 1980s...

Wow! Two bidders got in a war the last hour of bidding for the yellow car.
Ended up at $10,100! Thats the highest I've seen a mclaren go for in awhile.

Anyone on here one of the bidders? There was a total of 12 different bidders.

It's a shame another Mclaren is leaving the state of MI. The buyer appears to be from Ijamsville, Maryland.

The car is really stunning looking. Downside is no original wheels and aftermarket floor matts.

I guess cause ASC repainted it before it was sold that should not effect the value of it, but causes allot of confusion when yellow wasnt offered that year in the first place. How do others think this will effect the value and why?

Yeah, someone fought me a bit at the end... I went a little over what I would say my "max" was, and after talking to the guy, I don't think I did too badly. A good thing the "other guy" didn't go any higher, I won it at my absolute limit.

Now, I just have to figure out how to get it home!

WTG Bill! I think you will be very happy with your purchase as it is extremely rare and looks great in the pictures. Regardless of the price, it appears to be a fun and unique car to drive.

I think it should help it's value substantially. It is truly a one of a kind car with a special one off paint job from asc! It is confusing for the standard civilian, but it was clearly layed out here and Sandy has verified it. One off oddball cars usually do really good value wise in the collector market, let alone the car show circuit...

Congrats on the car!!! She is a beauty for sure. Hmm you could fly in and drive home like someone else said but then you are taking some risks imo. I would have it shipped if I were you. If costs are an issue think of it from both perspectives, check out below I did a lil cost comparison.

Ship one way to your address and a tip to the driver. I used DAS for an estimate. I had to guess the zip in Michigan so I used 48226 and then 21754 for Ijamsville MD. Check out the link below I hope it works otherwise you can easily do it again. The total came to $495 minimal with many options of upgrades.

I did the "fly in" thing pnce when I bought my wife a Buick Reatta in Scottsdale, AZ. Never made it home with the car, I was rear-ended by a semi in Little Rock!! I have two nicely herniated discs in my neck, thank you very much!

I'll look into the shipping thing, but I worry about not seeing the car first.
