Not exactly. I can dig out the emails and the posts here about this car I am sure I still have them. You and I had a discussion about it.
This car was on ebay quite a while back. CHAZ, bought it and stored it. Its got an 83 vin but is nearly all 85 parts. It has weird black louvered headlight covers and strange ribbed body rub mouldings.
I think we came to no real conclusion as to what the car is.

I have seen 2 others with the black plastic affixed headkouvers (like venetian blind slats placed over the hedlight glass. oddly tjey were prototypes of some sort.

That is NOT where Ford would have put that tag. Period. It would've been affixed with a single screw behind the left headlight, right next to the build tag which would have the last 6 digits of your VIN along with other pertinent info. Every last Fox body I've looked at has had the tags right behind the left headlight, the only difference is method of attachment. Screws for early cars and staples for later.
For lots of pics of these tags go to www.sspmustang.org. The cop cars were built on the same line and used the same tags.

I agree 100% about the buck tag placement, but there's so many other overtly odd things on this car that I don't rule anything out.
Mike, I don't know if you saw my post over at FEP but the more time that passes the more I think there are more of these 83's running around than we know. Back when I bought this car I found an ad for an 83 asc concept car w/ 8500 miles but it was from '97 - I saved the link but not the post The other day while in endless search mode I stumble across this site http://forums.nicoclub.com/zerothread?i ... id=3328960
scroll down to a poster named DriftBoy8807 and take a look at his info - I e-mailed him but have gotten nothing yet.
i know who can set this right.... mr. storch... they 10th vin digit should tell you they year of the car so whats your 10th vin. also cheack the door and the body tag maybe somone playd a switcharoo with your vin tag.
Peter, try hard to contact that poster. He ays his '83 McLaren is "Bone Stock" ~ maybe he is interested in selling it, or maybe we could talk him into driving it out here NY/NJ for a close up examination !
IF there really were 1983, they more than likely were one offs and early post normal production "prototypes" ~ I will call my #1contact, this evening & pick his brain. I have 24 pages of 10 to a page on my registry and never came across even one 1983 VIN, until this week, on this site.
Never say never, but I am not convinced just yet.

I am pretty sure the VIN was in the ebay ad and it was for a 1983...I am 99.9% sure on that. I may have the vin around, I'll have to check.

Mike --- Here's the v.i.n. (I've researched this car so often I can recite it) for the record if you don't find it- I know I did give it to you along with the buck tag info. 1MEBP79F8DF618320 If anybody would like some pics posted I'd be happy to post as many as you'd like.
BTW I think I'm going to check out this 85 vert today (I need it like I need another hole in my head ) But it's just sitting there wasting away and there's still so many of them running around down here - THAT & I'm a sucker for these cars. If I go I'll get a bunch of dig. pics and all the info (I believe it's a two owner car)
That's good enough for me. Baffled, but believing. I have no listing of 1983s. Sure wish I knew how many. This leaves thepicture incomplete. I am going to call my contact, right now. I had forgotten. Will be back.

Any follow up on this one? Was there an 83 made? I vaguely remember hearing this awhile back being disputed but never resolved.
Amazing what you see when you take the time to look for it.
So it's possible there could be as many as 8 orig. made. BTW, I never heard anything back from that guy on that Nissan site who says he has a stock 83 Mclaren, although I think he doesn't visit the site very often. I think Negusm also emailed him-maybe he heard something?
