I have been quiet, because I only know PART of the truth, not all.

What I do know is this:

1986 is the only MERCURY based YEAR I am sure of. Wayne Lincoln Mercury, where my '86 Coupe came from, had a bunch of ascMcLarens - as I have mentioned manytimes prior. Coupes, and 'Verts totalling around 20 or so. All units that had cruise, had leather wrapped steering wheels from a hi-line cougar with a center pad with either "COUGAR" or the outline of the Cougar, that Merc used.
My 2 1990s both have Mustang wheels with cruise.
Sandy passed away in 2012. He will be forever missed.

Our '86 convertible has the a McLaren leather wrapped steering wheel and no cruise. That's probably the only thing it doesn't have.

My old 86 (euro) had cruise but the wheel was not leather. I was going to use a 87-89 instead. I bought it new from Hank. The 87-89 horn pad will not fit the 85-86 wheel.

The Azura Blew ( ) has a material cover ing. i am not 100% positive that it is leather, It's stitched on the underside, and it's material is grained. I am really not sure what it is. My guess is it's slightly backside padded (soft to the touch) - Vinyl

The 25th Anniversary car is definatly leather. Has that leather "feel" and it's got cruise, as does the blue one.
The 86 Coupe has no cruise & it's wheel feels like the blue 'vert (texture & "feel').

The '86 with cruise doen't have ASC McLaren on the steering wheel does it? It has the Mercury or Cougar emblem in the center.

If it's any help, my '88 has the original leather wrapped wheel exactly like the photos posted above by 'Eric5oh'. The cruise buttons are arranged vertically where the wheel mentioned in the original post that was on ebay has them set horizontally. I did recently have to install a horn repair kit because the '87-'89 cars apparently had factory inner horn button material that didn't last very long. Not sure if other years had a similar issue or not. Still sorting all the electrical gremlins from headlights that love to turn themselves off without warning to a hatch release that well... doesn't. One thing at a time. Ahhhh, fun fun! :?
