Another code (if correct) to fall in this category is "ST". I have heard it means "Steel Bumper(s)". Only a few 1979 cars (maybe a very few 80-81 Cobras too) got the alluminum bumpers. Even the cars that got a front or back alluminum bumper got the other one in steel. It seems that a car with both factory alluminum bumpers is extremely rare. So what does the code actually mean then?

Then when they dropped the alluminum bumpers altogether, the code still gets stamped on every tag.

The Capri's were assembled in the same plant as Mustangs so it seems to me that the tag would be the same for both cars and like all the extra holes in the engine area that weren't used in later years some things just don't get changed. Rear louvers probably required extra holes in the hatch for attaching them so they would be an important step to be taken before paint. I could be wrong of course.

The 2 1985 Capris that I ever saw (and visually inspected) both had the framework (outer perimeter) affixed directly to the glass by means of that super sticky tape that went 360 degrees around the framework of the louvers. Both were being installed at a Mercury dealer. Now, these were bubbleback cars. I never once saw a 1979-1982 unit with the louvers installed at the factory (assuming they were) to inspect them and how they were affixed to the hatch.
