i just have to pay to have my license re-instated in indiana.
had it suspended about 12 or so years ago. went down to the indy 500 with a mustang gt & had too much fun so i had to stay about 5 days at the state of indiana's bed & breakfast(also known as county jail).

if you remeber back in the mid 90's at indy 500, there was some dispute which ended up causing all the big name drivers to set up an alternate race that weekend in michigan. since all the big stars pulled out of indy 500, so did the sponsers. that lost alot of money for the city/state. so to compinsate for the loss of corporate dollars, the city cracked down on the pre-race party (which was a city wide massive bash) & handed out tickets & arrests like they were passing out candy on halloween.

Geez, I've never heard of the "pre-race parties" racing? Is all you did was a little stoplight racing??? If so, that seems really stiff. So, you lost your license all together? or to just drive in Indiana? 5 days of Jail? Thats bull.....did you get a lawyer?

the indy 500 weekend is 1 long party. for a few square miles around the brickyard, the whole area is packed with people.
used to go every year until that last time. basicaly got caught lighting it up at a stop light. there is the main street that runs in front of the brickyard & tons of people cruise it saturday night either by car or by walking.
i did it near a couple of cops on foot & was pulled over. 1 cop wanted to yank me to the tank, the other 5 cops tried talking him out of it(they wanted to continue to hang out & have fun & not fill out paperwork at the station). but the prick won & off i went.
that was saturday night - memorial day weekend. courts did not open up til tuesday due to holiday weekend. jails were so over crowded from city trying to re-coup lost cash. people caught for j-walking, open intoxicants, cutting across people lawns & any other minor violations were locked up.
i didnt get to see the judge until late tuesday. then had to jump through hoops for 2 & 1/2 days trying to post bail. orginally bail was set at $100 bucks by the judge. then it went to 300 once they tried to pay. came back with 300 & they said since i lived out of state it was going to be the full 3 thousand & then the 3 grand had to be in the form of a bails bond, which had to be obtained through a bails bonds man. & once out, then there was the matter of getting the mustang out of impound with the tons of towing/storage fees.
bottom line, it was a long drawn out bunch of b.s. that should have been nothing more that a ticket.
liscence was suspended for 1 year & i was told by the judge that i would have to re-apply for my driving prevliges in the great state of Indiana.
i just try to stay out of the state instead. went back just for the sentencing(time served.) paid a $700 fine on top of it.

What exactly did you do to get more then a ticket? Also in order for them to revoke your license you must have given them an Indiana license, how would they have authority to take away a license from another state?

nothing more than a nice big, smoke filled brake tork. :D
i called it lighting it up. cop & judge called it reckless driving (which is an arrestable offence in most states). & there was the matter of a disorderly conduct charge (that was latter dropped).

reason that everything went to crap was the fact indianapolis was losing millions of dollars that weekend due to the pulling out of sponsers. they needed to cover there losses.
solution: crack down on the pre-race party. prior to that year, other than running naked in the streets, cops looked the other way. as long as everyone was peaceful. open intoxicants, boobie flashing, grilling on the sidewalk or whatever. everyone was having fun in a peaceful way.

one year i brought the pace car down. people that were lining the side walks would pour water down so the muscle cars could really light it up & a couple of cops made sure everyone was stepped back before lighting em up. that was cool.
another year someone parked an old shool bus on the side of the road & at night hung a big screen/sheet down the side of it & showed the film animal house (uncut). that same year my girlfriend(at the time) tripped on the sidewalk & a cop helped her up with her left hand(she had a 5th of southern comfort in the right) & he smiled & moved on.

now the year the star drivers & big sponsers pulled out, the anti-fun patrols came out. i talked with a ton of out of towners who were also locked up for minor infractions. jay walking, lot of open container arrests (never was inforced prior to that year), tresspassing (for cutting across someone lawn), littering & other head scratchers.

my michigan drivers liscence was not suspended, but the points did show up on my record. in Indiana my driving prevlidge was revoked. if i want to drive in indiana i have to ask/pay to reinstate my driving privlige(which i would have had to wait 1 year from offence).

My god, that makes me sick. For what you went thru and all you did was smoke your tires at a light???!?!?!!?!? For Christ's sake, I've seen/heard of drug dealers shooting people and doing less time and fines! Thats just wrong. No offense, and I know it would've cost money but did you look into a lawyer? I would've for what they put you thru. I've used them a couple of times, it cost money, but it was worth it considering the bullcrap the law wanted to put me thru. I also found out that some in law enforcement are extremely dirty.

I"m just sorry to hear you went thru that, for the little offense it was.

Well he did mention about disorderly conduct charges being dropped so I imagine there may be a little tiny bit more to this. You think law enforcement is bad? I learned the hard way in life that life truly is what we make it. Out of college I got a job as an investigator for a very large law firm. I had to serve a So-Ordered Subpeona to a local Government official who tried getting me to change something on it which I could have gone to jail for. Not to mention on quite a few occassions those lovely attorneys you mention wanted to back date some summons or subpeonas in order to show work done on a case for clients that dropped them. Lets just say there is corruption everywere. Just choose who you are in life so there are no regrets.

there was no resisting arrest charge. it was disorderly conduct which has a very wide interpitation. again, they stacked that charge on that were later dropped.
a laywer was hired after i was bailed out. thats why the disorderly conduct charge was dropped.

mark/plumcrazy, you got a deal, just so long as i get to drive your car to the jersey ford show

My sincere apology I will go back and edit that too. You are so right disorderly is a vague term and they do tend to tack it onto other charges.

mustangjim wrote:Hi All,

After reading umpteen entries on this idea. May I suggest WFC 10 at Indy in May.

Indy is fairly centrally located, a large Ford venue, there appears there are quite a few Four Eyed Pride members going. With a large Capri & ASC turnout, show space could be allocated through Dallas Mustang (Show Sponsors), we would need to coordinate a sequential registration (can be accomplished on-line). :D

I am hoping to show my Eurocoupe at several shows, since WFC is no longer here in St. Louis  & would like to meet some of the great people from this site & FEP. I am sure there are a couple Indy locals that could advise on area and a possible cruise route. :P

Hope this doesn't stir the pot, just itching to see more than 1 or 2 ASC's at any given place. :P Please PM me anyway if you will be at Indy, I am planning to attend at least Sat/Sun.

CYA,
Jim

P.S - Still love those Smileys :D
Jim,

I'd like to know more about this Indy show. is there a website for it?
