So. what then has happened with the car? It was not sold, right? Correct ? So, was the sale a fraud ?

I am not sure, I have done everything but phoned the number on the site. No responce, none from the one listed on the ebay member either... for all we know its a guy who saw it and took pictures of it and jotted down the vin and mileage. I am phoning the museum tonight around 2AM (10AM there time).

Yup, I think it's a fraud. Just as you said, i.e. pictures, spot check VIN and post on e-bay. Just really not worth the risk, IMO.

YES I KNEW THAT SOUNDED LIKE A SCAM. HOWEVER I DO NOT THINK SELLER HAD A PART IN THE SCAM IN MY OPPION BUT

FYI I TALKED TO THE GUY THREE DAYS AGO WAS ABLE TO COMUNICATE SEEMED LIKE A STRAIGHT UP GUY BUT YOU NEVER KNOW ANYWAY HAD EVERY INTENTION OF PAYING BIG MONEY FOR THE M81 BUT HE QUOTED ME 25K FOR THE CAR I FEEL I CAN GET IT LESS BUT NOT GOING ANYWHERE CLOSE TO THE 25K OH WELL. jpywell YOUR TURN!

I have expressed interest in a couple of the cars there and no email, so maybe something else came up. I did not expect him to be at the front of the fraud, if anything I thought it was a random guy just taking information off the site and pushing fraud emails.

25K eh... well I will have to talk with my $$$ man and see what he feels would be worth it. At least you were able to speak to someone. What was his name and did he speak english by anychance? I know french aswell but thats a little rusty.

do not recall name but as i said before i was able to comunicate and he also stated he would have a buddy help him who spoke better english if needed i think he said that guy was in the military. where is the guy here that posted he was going to ck out the car and take some more photos that lives in italy? HMM?

So is there any follow up to this? Was it sold? Do we know who bought it?I'll be in italy in late 2007 so I am trying to contact this guy and keep up on the situation and report back any new news.

On another note do we know who bought the other as new Orange car back east? Have they shown themselves anywhere?

Some guy on FEP said he offered the owner 15 for it and he didnt take it, said he wanted 25. That was the last I heard, I would bet he still has it. I have the guy in Italy's e-mail address somewhere if you want it. I talked to a guy at the MCA show in Birmingham (Barber Motorsports Park) about the orange one that had been on e-bay. He said he had been trying to buy it, it was at a classic car dealer I think he said in Conn but not sure. He had to go eat lunch and was going to come back and talk more but I never saw him again. Yeah I would have thought that $65k would do it for a low mileage original in driving condition but coming all the way from Italy probably added expenses to try and recover. Kendal mentioned they were trying to get a desk done off the block but I donâ€™t know if that happened. At least thereâ€™s a lot of new M81 information and few sales the last 5 years to create a market compared to when I joined this forum! Sandy was really the only one who had some info at that time.
