I have a question on this. Are there different types of molding for each vehicle? I mean for instance which did the Mustang use, LX or GT molding and is there a difference? Same thing for the Capri molding, were they different from Mustangs or different from within Mercury like Ford? Thanks for any responses I am also in need of getting molding. What are the specifics of your ASC year make model? I also may have found what you need as well once I get an answer on this.

For the rubber mouldings (the 6 pieces between the wheels), the 85-86 Capri used the 85-86 Mustang rubber mouldings. The rubber pieces behind the doors (in front of the rear tires) were Mustang LX rubber mouldings (Mustang GT mouldings had the embossed "GT" of course).

For the hard plastic CORNER mouldings which are between the bumper covers and wheels (which is what Peter is looking for), those are CAPRI specific parts and getting VERY VERY hard to find. The Capri had side marker lights/reflectors built into those mouldings which the Mustang ones do not. The Mustang ones WILL fit, but you may FAIL a safety inspection since the marker lights MUST be present as federally mandated.

I see many requests for these Capri corner mouldings going unanswered for months and months. Idiots...er...people try to pry these off with a screwdriver and they break in half....so finding them in junkyards is almost impossible....even if you do luck out on an 85-86 Capri in the bone yard.

Trim

Post by svo413 »

Wow Mike, I didn't think those hard plastic trim pieces were hard to find. I see them on ebay time to time but not every day. I picked up a whole set for $5 each including the light. Just for spares.

NOS, never seen those.

One or two will pop up about every 2-3 months or so....or longer. I haven't seen any for at least a month now on ebay.

There are people selling Capri fenders and such with them still bolted on right now.

the 86 capri I found in the junk yard only had ONE of the side marker mouldings intact, the rest where lying on the ground, broken. :(
