Ebay 89 ASC Mclaren
1989 Ford Mustang ASC Mclaren
You are bidding on a extremely RARE 1989 Ford Mustang ASC McLaren 5.0 convertible. This car has been newly repainted and re-upholstered(leather). It features a 5.0 V8 engine, positive traction rearend, and H-pipe muffler system. Runs and drives great! Tan convertible top is fully operable. Also has heat and air conditioning, power windows, power locks, cruise control, electric exterior mirrors, and antilock brakes. The transmission is an automatic(4 speed with overdrive). Tires are in outstanding shape with about 90-95% tread left. There were only 247 ASC McLarens made in 1989!!!!

Check out the seats/rear storage area and capri fenders/quarters! not to mention tail lights and side mirrors, rear bumper cover and wing.
Also, correct me if I'm wrong but the tonneau cover looks fabricated.

I saw this car and was thinking it didn't look right but didn't notice the Capri fenders. I looked at the Vehicle History eBay offers and it shows heavy rea collision damage. I wonder if he rebodied it using a Capri. I noticed there aren't any enginebay pics.

I can't see someone grafting on Capri quarters. If it was heavy rear damage, most likely they did a 'clip' job - they cut the damaged Mustang in half and did the same with a Capri vert with front end damage, and then welded the two together across the middle. Which means unless there were sleeves inserted in the rockers, all the structural strength is coming from the welds and the asc added center backbone.
I'll drive a solid roof car that has been clipped, but I wouldn't be confortable with a convertible done that way. Scary.

It's a big shiny sexy looking RED CONVERTIBLE and some young guy (or gal) is gonna go Whoppie over it.
In truth, it's a mess,
and I think that the owner does in fact know alot more about it.
Above & beyond the obvious:
Wrong Headrests
Slip Covers over more than likely shot OEM leather
Mustang GT Side Ground Effects
Wrong placement of antenna, for a 1989
No Fog Lites
Wrong FRONT Air Dam
Wrong Spoiler
Wrong Tonneau Cover
Missing the > < points on the top of the doors, finishing off the tonneau cover
and yes, wrong tonneau, and non original conv. roof (and wrong, also)
Besides what others have said.
I know, I know, 1 owner, never in an accident, older woman owner,
and buy it privately and ya don't have to deal with those used car salesmen, whom ya can't trust !

And said lock unit was painted along with the rest of the car ... does that make it European since it's mono-chromatic?

Ahhhhh you guys and your McLaren Eagle-Eyes... gotta love it! I should've begged all of you to run mine through the proverbial ringer too before I forked over the dough... but it was admittedly a spontaneous purchase. Of course if it had been picked apart and lambasted 12 different ways, it probably would've depressed me and I might not have bought it. Truth is it hasn't been all that bad so far, just a million little things. I get a little stir crazy if I don't have a project vehicle to continually plug away on. It could use paint though and that's a biggie. Either way - Live 'n learn...
Hey, did anyone else notice that shiny Red, built-from-6-other-cars '89 model on ebay doesn't have any windshield wipers? At least none that I can see. Maybe they retract down into the hood cowl for less wind resistance and a much higher top speed... a very rare factory option!
Actually I just think Earl Sheib must've forgotten to tack 'em back on there after the repaint! Sure does look purdy though...
Any thoughts on what its *true* value is... knowing what we know and seeing what we see?
