Subject: Body build tag
Body:
I thought I'd post some interesting items that
most Mclaren owners I've met were unaware of.
Take
a peek behind your front grille-There should be a
metal stamped plate(actually 2). One specifically
states on mine "ASC Convertible". This was used to
designate vehicles to be converted into Mclarens on the
Ford line so as certain items could be added or
deleted as needed for the conversion. The other will give
you specifics including options(Ford or Merc) and
paint codes(Ford or Merc). 87-90 Mclaren
Mustang
owners will all find Black as their designated Ford
color regardless of actual body color. ASC chose Black
coupes as the base for the coversions to avoid the
expense and time consuming task of repainting the entire
engine compartment. Thus the Mclaren Mustangs have a GM
style black engine compartment. I previously owned a
Black 88 Mclaren and didn't realize this at the time.
The Capri's were not built in this way. My 86 was an
Oxford White car from Ford, and as such it has the white
engine compartment to match the rest of the body.
