Subject: Re: wheels on an 86 Coupe

Body:
The McLaren wheels were made be MSW and you could
get them in the aftermarket from places such as the
Tire Rack and were listed as models -type 1 or type 2
depending on front or rear wheel drive. According to the
guy at MSW that I spoke with the McLaren wheels are
the same as the standard MSW wheels except for the
different logos.

As an aside, the Tire Rack was able
to get a WHOLE BUNCH of orange McLaren wheels that
asc couldn't get rid of, repainted them all black
except for the outer rim and sold them with winter tires
in a package for Fox body Fords. I've talked to a
few people that bought these wheels in the package
and they had the McLaren centers in them with orange
paint showing where the wheel would get scratched. When
I called the Tire Rack about this they confirmed
what I had heard and seen, and also told me about the
MSW connection.

As a further aside for anyone
contemplating using the same style wheels from the later
McLaren Mustangs on a McLaren Capri, the wheels are
different. They have a center cap that sticks out further
than the Capri wheels and I think (but don't know for
sure) that the offset of the wheels might also be
different. Tom
