Well it's about time I finally found a place that gives info on
these cars. I'm not an owner but I have always been interested in
them. I've had two mustangs but ever since I first took notice of
the Mclaren I've wanted one of them. There was a guy who owned a
video store where I grew up and he had one that he bought brand
new. The store went out of business and he disappeared. But I've
always wanted to find more info on the cars but I could never seem
to find anyone who has ever heard of them. I think they are the
coolest mustangs ever made, even more so than the Saleen. The 92
mustang I had was a convertible and it was built so poorly that I
sold it a year after I got it. The top was leaky, it felt like it
would shake itself to pieces on bumpy roads, I took the back seat
out install a cd changer and there was rust around some of the
reinforcements that had been welded in when the hard roof was
removed. The car was less than a year old at the time. I know all
fox bodied mustang convertibles were built by ASC. Including the
ones this site pertains to. Did ASC do a better job with these
special mustangs than they did with the regular ones? Does the
interior trim hold up better? Do they shake on bumpy roads? Does
the top leak? I know the top is modeled after the MB roadsters but
I have to ask anyway. What about parts. Most of the mechanical
stuff I'm not too worried about. It seems as that is mostly off the
shelf Ford. And if I got one of these I would probably do some
updating on the engine and trans anyway. Not looking to make a drag
car, that would be a waste. I just want something with a little
more power. And perhaps better handling. I'm sure they were state
of the art back in 1988 but times change. Like I said, from the
mechanical perspective I just want to update it and make it more
competetive. Stylewise they still look just as good now as they did
14 years ago. But body and trim parts are what I am most concerned
with. That's what makes it look good, and that's what I am
concerned about. How available are the trim parts and accessories
that were only available to these specific models? What kinds of
costs can I expect? An example would be the skirt that goes around
the rocker panels and under the rear bumper? Seat upholstery kits?
Console? Door panels? They are a bit different from the regular
mustangs. I've seen the link to that place down in Florida that
claims to specialize in these mustangs. Do they have a catalog?
Any answers would be aprreciated. I would like to buy an 87-90 by
the end of this summer. I'm not concerned about about the overall
condition as long as it hasn't had any major damage. Minor damage
is okay, as I plan to do some degree of restoration and alteration.
Does anybody have any detailed pictures of the interior from all
angles? Let me know.
