Subject: Re: Power Mirrors
Body:
I have always wanted to get the VIN of the car at which the change
took place, BUT that now seems impossible! The 1987 consoles were
used in very early 1988s, until the supply was gone, (OR) possibly
until the newer style arrived from the manufacturer: Colamco (Owned
by American SunRoof at the time). From cars I've seen, I can tell
that the change was early on in the 1,015 car-unit build, certainly
within the first 400 units. (Forget your dash plaque, it's
meaningless)!! I and asc go only by the VIN of the car.
As for the exterior mirrors, the same as above for the console. It
was a running change, BUT even harder to track, because BEFORE they
became standard equipment on the 1988 asc/McLarens they were a listed
OPTION by asc, at $60.00 extra. So, it's possible to find very low
VIN cars WITH the electric mirrors, and higher VIN cars with the
remote control mirrors! Once it became standard about mid-way thru
the 1988 build, naturally the "option" was no more. You can tell by
pictures which a car has:
Mirror mounted to the "A" pillar, is remote control
Mirror mounted to the door panel, is electric power control.
All 1989 & 1990s were the electric power, and all 1987s were the
remote control type. 1988s sported both, until mid way in the build,
and then they all had the electric power.
The console & the mirrors did not happen at the same time! I have
found cars with the 1987 console & the electric power mirrors (I
assume ordered under the options), and I have found cars with the
remote control mirrors & the NEW console, as well. There was an
overlap period of time in there.
