Subject: Only My Opinion!

While we are still on this controversial subject I would just like to
take the time to throw out my opinion. I do agree/understand where
the pure stock guys are coming from. Sure, it would be nice to own a
MINT 5,000 mile showroom new car, but the fact is, that there are
only a handful of the 2,500 that were made that are still in this
condition! So, what does that mean? All of the other beat-to-death
cars should be scrapped? I think the owners of these pristine cars
would say "Yes". Because you see, what is happening is with each
beater ASC/McLaren retired, we are just boosting up the value of the
pretty cars! I don't think that's right. I also don't like
seeing
some of these stuck-up owners of rare beauty queens, that just
trailer the car here and there, holding their heads high
because "they" own a rare car. If one of these people is
reading
this now "Get a clue!" If someone is an a$$hole, I don't
care how
valuable or rare a car is, I would piss on it if I had the chance. I
saw a McLaren at a mechanic shop once and went to talk to the owner,
and the first thing out of his mouth was "It's not for
sale", I
informed him that I had my own. I just wanted to talk to the guy but
I guess he was like, `I own a McLaren so therefore you are
beneath
me.' I wish I could see him now, I'd say "I own two, so
there!"

I am one of the people who will show my respect, and truly honor an
unused car when I see one don't get me wrong. That's just not
how 'I' am with cars. I am all about originality, I have the old
belief that a car is a reflection of ones self. When we go to a show
and see four mint ASC/McLarens in a row that's fine, but when you
are
looking at all four and then on the end you see a fifth car, it kind
of looks like the others, it's nice like the others, but it's clearly
different. That will be my McLaren! I will take the 'rare' and make
it truly one-of-a-kind. That is why I started searching for a
McLaren in the first place. I own (now trying to sell) a 1993
Mustang Convertible, this was going to be my one-of-a-kind project I
had it custom painted, changed the bumper, added a wing, started
drawing up custom interior designs, thought about a custom quality
stereo, and so on and so on. Now granted, everything I do, I like to
do perfect and tastefully, but the car was still not going to truly
get any respect. For it was a regular Mustang, a dime-a-dozen 5.0,
one that anyone with money could top. Now one day at a show I saw a
car, "Was it a Mustang...a Saleen...a Cobra???" the car
intrigued me,
I never saw a car like this before, and from then on I was hooked. I
began my search to find a rare ASC/McLaren Mustang to use to
build "my" show car. Well, I found one, and then I found another
one, so now I have two, but because I have respect for the cars I
will not tear them down and customize them, because their conditions
are too nice, and I just can't bring myself to do it. I am currently
trying to sell them to someone who can just enjoy them the way they
are, and I am trying to find a "beater" that should be taken from a
clueless idiot and resurrect it to 'my' "one-of-a-kind" creation.
And, when I am through, it will be driven, so that I may spread the
word and keep the ASC/McLaren legacy alive, from every gas station
attendant to every little kid that says "Wow, cool car, is that a
Mustang?" See the greatest joy I get from a car, is sharing the car
with everyone else. If I just kept it in my garage and wiped it with
a diaper, who would even know what a McLaren Mustang was to even
appreciate it when they saw it? I don't think Sandy and the other
guys who have showroom cars are wrong for not daily driving there
babies. I just think everyone is different; we all need to respect
each other's styles, as long as they are done "tastefully".
Unlike
some of the nightmares I have seen on eBay. "Be Original" is my
quote, and I will do everything I can to make my McLaren original,
but I won't destroy a perfectly good car to do that. So my advice is
this: if you intend to build/fix up a car, do it tastefully, and
don't make a fool of the car. Take a project car and save it,
don't
destroy a classic!!! And to the mint collector, just remember, that
if it wasn't for all these cars that are not fully stock and true to
factory specs your cars wouldn't be in such high demand, and worth as
much, because every McLaren out there would be in the same condition
as yours.

There is no "perfect car" you all have to agree that the cheesy
ground effects on the 87-88's could have been better, they almost
look like an after-thought. How about those ugly square bottomed
Recaro seats, and has anyone noticed that you can only use the sun
visor if you plan to flip it down directly in front of your face,
don't even think about turning it to block the sun from the side.
But, there are the other things that put a McLaren well above the
ordinary Mustang; like a smooth, raked windshield with seamless trim,
a long shaved trunk lid, the 2-seater roadster look, a classy looking
top, and no ugly bulging top covered by an ugly boot. If I offended
anyone I am sorry, it's just my opinion.

My McLaren cannot be taken to my grave, but I will do everything I
can to drive up to it park and get out, all while turning heads and
looking good!!!
