If you have a 1984-1986 asc/McLaren (Mercury Capri) 2-Seat Roadster,
this is not for you. If you have a late 1986 (1986.5) asc/McLaren
Mercury Capri 2-Seat Roadster or any 1987-1990 Ford Mustang
asc/McLaren 2-Seat Roadster.....Listen up !

The biggest problem with these cars is when the fabric roof will not
release from the Tonneau Cover. There are 2 ways to avoid this.

#1. When you put up the top, and you enter that "big fat screw"
(Auger) that is attached to the roof at the bottom center of the
plastic window and you push down until it "click" - then you reach
around and push down on that switch behind the driver's seat, keep
you finger tips under the edge of the material, palms up, back of
hand resting on the tonneau, around the back as far as you can
reach. When you feel it tightening down on your fingers, stop
pushing the button!! Always leave enough room 'round the back-side
to roll a pencil or cigarette under, this way if she FREEZES (gets
stuck) when you want to put the top down, you can reverse this
procedeure and attempt to pull the top DOWN, as though you are
putting the top UP, this reverse attempt frequently frees up the
mechanics and allows you to then reverse it and pop the thing from
its hole!

If you have never had a problem and want to avoid A BIG BIG problem,
there is a fix...
Go to hardware store and buy:-
Two 1/4 inch hair pin cotters
Two 3/16" x 1" Clevis Pins
Two 1/4" HOLE diameter Flat Washers
This will all cost you $1.00

Pop top from Tonneau.
Remove two big screws
that hold Auger to top

Insert Clevis Pins thru washer and then
thru roof material, where bolts were.

Use Hir Pin Cotters to attach top to Clevis Pins.

Now if top will not release from Tonneau,
you get in back and using a small Pliers pull out the cotter pins &
you"re good to go & lower the top.

You can also tie a pie of rubber wrapped wire (like those used inside
a telephone) to pull them off!
