Subject: Bellhousing Patterns

Ok...I've decided to get some info together on the Ford/Mercury/Lincoln
bellhousing patterns and find out what matches, and what doesn't. If it's
possible, if you have an engine laying around I would like, if you could, you
to provide the following...

A - A clear 640x460(or larger) picture of the bellhousing pattern in the back
of the block. You can also take a close up with a 35mm camera and mail it to
me smail where I can scan it in, should you not have a scanner.

And one of the following...

B - Measurements of the bellhousing pattern. Using a 360 degree circle, going
from 0 degrees being the center of the top of the block relative to the crank
centerline, at how many degrees does the next bolt appear, and the next, etc.
etc. till you get all the way around the circle. THEN...measure how far away
that bolt is from the centerline of the crank.

or

C - Trace out the bellhousing pattern on a piece of large paper or cardboard
and mail it to me marking where the bolts are, and where the centerline of the
crank is.

It doesn't have to be SUPER acurate, but enough to be able to compare to other
patterns to see if there is a match.

Which ones am I looking for? ALL! 1.6s(all kinds), 2.0s, 2.3s, 3.8s, 5.0s,
5.8(all kinds), 6.6, FE, modulars, Zetec, diesels, fwd, RWD, AWD,
flatheads...even Mazda or other Ford brands can be included...Euro, Asian,
american...anything and everything.

I want to make an all inclusive list of all the bellhousings Ford has made and
what can be swapped from one kind of engine to another. Once I start getting
some, I will put up a list, with pictures and measurements as well as a list of
compatibility from one bellhousing type to another.

I know some of them are the same...like 351M/400/429/460 and
255/289/302/351W/351C/'73 400 wack-o block. But I would like to get a
comprehensive list for EVERYONE that could easily look at it and find out what
they could use for this application.

Any help would be appreciated!
