Subject: Taking the hunt for oddball Capri parts to Canada...

Here is an interesting thought that might help the Capri owners expand their
search for parts...

It seems to me that there were more Capri's sold up in Canada then down in the
United States... or
at least that is what struck me when I cruised through a number of auto
wrecking yards in Ontario
and Quebec ? Now I know the US has a population that is 10 times larger then
Canada, but it
almost seems like more of the Capri styled Mustangs ended up in Canada (
although cold hard stats
may prove me wrong in my impression ).

I recall one wrecker in Quebec ( located at a yard just outside of Hull in a
town called Gatineau
Quebec ) that had a perfect condition Capri RS sitting inside his building (
and he would not part
it out because he wanted $2000 Canadian for the entire car - which is about
$1200 US ). It had
the upgraded interior in very good condition, aero effects, no rust on the
body, I think it was
black with lime green pin strips ? ) and it packed a running 302 with a
standard transmission in
it. I stumbled on it while I was searching for parts to restore my Cobra and
so it didn't really
interest me personally at the time.

And to make things even better for Capri style Mustang hunters is that the
later version of the
Capri never made it in to Canada... so that means that the only Capri's that
will show up in a
Canadian auto wrecker are the Mustang styled Capri's and the earlier
non-Mustang version ( of
which very few would still be found in a wrecker ).

Anyhow, I just thought I would toss that thought into the mix for the Mustang
Capri owners who
have never pursued their hunt for parts into Canada. You might surf the
Internet and try to
locate some auto wreckers in the Ottawa Ontario area or the Gatineau Quebec
area - as both had
large concentrations of your models of Capri's.... And since most of those
auto wreckers are
interconnected with each other they could perform some local searches of all
the other local yards
to try to help you find some oddball part that can't be found. And if you are
lucky enough to
locate what you need the cost will be in Canadian dollars ( which are in a
pitiful state - meaning
1 US dollar is equal to 1.60 Canadian ).

And with the NAFTA Free Trade Agreement auto parts shipped from Canada would be
tax and duty free
as the vehicles were originally manufactured in North America ;)
