Subject: Fraudulent ASCs...

Body:
Has anyone ever come accross an ASC Maclaren that wasn't one?

I think it would be tough to fake a convertible, but how about the
coupes?

I was just thinking about my '85. When I got it the only thing on it
that was from ASC was the rear wing, side ground effects and the
orange wheels. Sure, it was painted blue with orange stripes, but
any car can be painted that way. The front and rear ground effects
were gone, no headlight covers, no fog lights, no radar detector, no
stereo, no steering wheel, no wheel caps, no floor matts and alotta
other things I can't think of right now. After I drove it for a
while, I started questioning its validity until the guy who sold it
to me showed me the two tags on the radiator and one of the tags had
ASC stamped on it. Also after talking to Sandy, the car's VIN
and "options" (5 speed, PW, no PL, no cruise, grey interior, etc)
fell exactly with what an '85 coupe should have.

To get this thing back in shape, I basically had to start from a base
capri and get all the ASC parts and build it back up again.
