This might help you, here is a breakdown of the engines offered in 1984-1986
in the Capri along with the code for each which will appear as the eighth
digit in the vin.

1984

2.3L - "A"
2.3L Turbo - "W"
3.8L - "3"
5.0L - "F" (fuel injection)
5.0L HO - "M" (carburetor)

1985

2.3L - "A"
2.3L Turbo - "W"
3.8L - "3"
5.0L - "F" (fuel injection)
5.0L HO - "M" (carburetor)

1986

2.3L - "A"
3.8L - "3"
