In an interview with Peter Muscat, he said, "I designed a new
progressive spring for the first three years of production. These
springs used basically the same amount of coils as a stock spring,
but were wrapped closer together which lowered these cars 1 1/4
inches without cutting." He then went on to say, "As we progressed,
the cars went horizontal shock absorbers in the rear which required
use of the stock Ford springs."
