Hey guys,
I joined the group a couple of weeks ago and managed to wade through the 2000+ messages since then (my wife thinks I'm crazy) and went through an ink cartridge for my printer in the process. The amount of information provided by Sandy and others in this group is amazing and much appreciated. I learned more about my car and McLarens in general than I could have ever imagined.
Here's my story....
I became the proud owner of an '85 MERCURY Mclaren Capris #52 (Jet Black/Sand Beige) this past fall. Unfortunately, I inherited it from my uncle, who passed away last spring. In any event, since the first day I saw the car (at about age 12), I fell in love with it. The car has 85k+ miles on it and runs great. It was garaged (unused) for at least the past 5 years and was not run once over that time period - when I first went to check out the car it had four flat tires and my uncle had been using it for the storage of his lawn and garden tools - I nearly passed out when I saw this. As with any car which has been put to good use as a daily driver and for the storage of garden tools, the interior could use some work. The exterior has a bunch of scratches on it as well. All in all it is in good mechanical shape which is the most important part - the rest can be fixed w/ time & $$$.
Well that's my McLaren story. I'm sure in the spring I will have a bunch of questions (some stupid I'm sure) regarding the various repairs needed to fix it up to respectability again. I'd be happy to be of any assistance to anyone else with general or specific questions about the car. In the meantime, is it May yet???????
