I put a set of Eibach springs (they are a progressive rate spring) and Koni
shocks on my '85 Cougar XR-7 5-speed and I would highly recommend them.
I like the way the car drives so much that it was a no-brainer when I
purchased my EuroCoupe in '96, the first thing I bought for it was a set of
Eibach's & Koni's.
They lowered the car about an 1" all around with a noticeable increase in
the cornering ability. On my Cougar, I had tried KYB & Monroe GP shocks and
found them a little too harsh for my tastes for most street use. After
installing the Koni's, the difference was amazing, with the shocks set in
the "softest" mode the car rides very nice yet very controlled at the same
time. If I feel the need to do a few laps at Grattan or Gingerman, I just
set them to "firm" and I'm ready to go.
I put a set of Bilstein's on my '93 Lightning (Koni didn't offer anything)
and they were very good and I would also recommend them to anyone looking
for a good quality shock, however the only reason I chose the Koni's over
the Bilsteins for the McLaren was the fact that the Bilsteins are not
adjustable like the Koni's.
