This created a little problem. Dealers are a VERY impatient bunch !
(Know this!!) Dealers would call ascMcLaren and they would have seen
one of our cars on ANOTHER dealer's lot (HORRORS) and they would then
want one, YESTERDAY. They were not happy with a 8-10 week wait, and
got somewhat nasty, 'ya know the old "XYZ Motors has it and I WANT
ONE, N*O*W." So ~ come 1988, ascMcLaren decided to "overbuild"
thusly making SOLD To DEALER cars, and when there was some slack (or
downtime) they'd just keep on pumpin' them out. Well....... this is
not a good idea. (Chrysler did it in the mid to late 70's and that
was a primary cause of their near bankruptcy! They called it
a "sales Bank") Anyhow, ascMcLaren over built some 99 1988 cars.
1989 Mustangs were rolling into ascMcLaren rail-yard and were bing
unloaded. Suddenly, nobody wanted a 1988 !! They wanted 1989s! The
1988s were getting weather-beatin' sitting outside into December-
January of 1989. So, ascMcLaren made a deal. They sold them all to
a dealer in Michigan called Dick McQuiston Ford. He took them over
the boarder to Canada, and ran them thru an AUCTION up there, where
they all sold ! They sold at OUR USA equalivent of $16,000 !!!!
Many, but not all eventually would up BACK in the USA when Ford
Dealer from Michigan, Minnisota, North Dakota and Upper New York
State heard about the "Good Bargins" and ran up north & got in on the
action, oaying $16,000 for them and selling them back in the states
for $ 23,000 (HOME RUN) ! Others stayed in Canada. There is no
way of knowing how many came back home to the USA. I have come
across many of them, however...I'd say about 20-25 or so that I know
of are here in the USA. I do, however have all 99 of their serial
numbers (VINs)....

Canada through dealerships or whether any McLarens that are presently
in Canada are simply US units that have migrated up north over the
years ?
