Hello Sandy ( and others, too)

Actually the car does have a SIKKENS sticker in the inside of the driver's side door. It does not appear to have been much of a sticker in the first place - by that I mean it is just paper and is getting faded out. I cannot see a color code on it.

The car's paint is really bright red and sure does draw attention

Thank you for your, as usual, great help and information,

Dick

Subject: [ASC McLaren ] Re: Identifing My Capri

They did not go back to Ford.  They went from Ford to ascMcLaren to
railcar.
All 1987 thru 1990 Mustangs built under code D32 to become an
ascMcLaren came down the Dearborn, Michigan Mustang plant in BLACK
Ford factory paint, with the EXCEPTION of units ordered with blue
interior.  Blue interior'd cars were done in white in 87, 89 & 90.
In 88 they were done in light smoke pastel grey.  This is because
Ford's computers were set up to reject the combo of a black car with
blue interior, deemed a no-no combination.  Cars with red, beige,
black or grey interior started life as a black car.
Once inside ascMcLaren, the cars got at least 60% dis-assembled.
After the roof was removed and other major alterations completed to
the chassis and the car was ready, it was totally repainted using the
most expensive paint known, SIKKENS (of Holland) in america in
Georgia.  Sikkens paint seldom chips, never cracks, and holds up a
long time !  A gallon of it is over $45.00.
98% of all paint colors used on ascMcLarens are unique to a Mustang.
Your red (ascMcLaren Red) is actually a Porsche/Audi color on the
Porsche called Guards Red and on the Audi Laser Red.  POR 027/H1 is
code.  For a complete color listing, I believe I did it & that it's
to your left either under Links or Database.

over all the car is really sharp. Has a brand new black top, gray
interior and bright RED paint. Orig. honeycomb wheels and eagle
tires.

general: When these cars were converted from a coupe to a rag-top and
all the trim added, was not the entire car painted (repainted)? The
reason I ask, is that the paint on this car looks just about too good
to be 15 years old and have not been repainted. But even guys that
know about painting ( and I know a little bit) can only point out
some very tiny spots, like a bit of paint on the edge of the original
mfg. plate on the inside of the driver's door and a wee bit of
something at the very bottom of the windshield under the cowling.
There is no apparent overspray anywhere; trunk, door sills, fenders,
engine comp.; etc. But, then to me; the paint looks more like enamel
than lacquer; there is a bit of "orange-peel" to it and sme slight
roughness.

repainted because it does look really sharp. I just keep wondering if
all of these conversions were a "repaint"  between the time they went
from Ford,  to McLaren, and back to Ford?
