Body:
Interesting what little mysteries one can discover while exploring their car. I guess the key to solving your mystery is dependent on whether you have full knowledge of the history of your vehicle. For example, if you were the original owner than the odds are that the marking was placed there by either Ford or the folks at ASC.
But if you were the second or subsequent owner than there is a huge number of possible explanations for those yellow markings :
The only time I have ever seen yellow grease pen markings is when the part came from an autowrecker ( auto parts junk yard ). Maybe someone broke into the car and broke the glove compartment... requiring a replacement ?
Possibly the dash was disassembled at some point and the glove box was simply 'marked' for reassembly ?
Seems like an interesting mystery that you have there.

Any significance to the marking "85-016" that is marked on the back
of my glove compartment in yellow grease pen? It looks like some kind
of original/factory marking. I noticed it while running wire for my
stereo. Any ideas?
