Must be my day for dolling out thoughts. I also run a web site that operates with phpBB forum messaging software. It is located at
I 'think' there is a way that I could create a McLaren specific forum within my current web site so that only McLaren forum message bases would be displayed when visitors use it.
But you do raise an interesting point about what would happen to all the 'old archives of posted messages' that are presently hosted with Yahoo. This is also the same 'catch 22' gotcha that Yahoo will probably be relying on when they attempt to convert their currently free service to a pay service. When faced with the task of starting fresh, most people will not want to walk away from all the 'historical' messages that were gathered in their old Yahoo forum. So many folks will simply fork over cash to Yahoo and continue with what they have rather than start over.
And unfortunately Yahoo does not make things easy for taking the messages from their forums and transplanting them into some other forum elsewhere.
With regards back to the phpBB forum software, I will touch base with the authors of phpBB and see if it is possible for me to create an additional forum that is a complete standalone from my other forum. I really don't think the McLaren folks want to have to look at our security related forums in order to get to the McLaren specific forums.
So if I could set it up as a standalone forum than that would be one possible solution. And the best part of it all is that I DON'T PAY FOR BANDWIDTH and I already OWN three web servers on the Internet that each have T1 fiber optic connections ( great pipes ;)

It would be nice to be able to set up a "real" message
board...like a PhpBB or something...They have a ton of features and
have remote linking capabilities. They can be set up to have
multiple forums and the search feature is WAAAAY better then this
yahoo crap. Threads don't get messed up and links are links...you
also have the capabilities to add remote linked pictures to a
thread. I believe the PhpBB's are free but of course require web
space and some maintenance and setup. I will look into what exactly
is involved in setting a board up. I am very web capable and would
love to set something up. I'm sure there are a few people on here
that would be willing to help me maintain and moderate the site and
of course chip in some money. The only problem I see is being able
to copy all the messages from this site to the new board...it would
be nice to not have to "start over". Anyway, Like I said I will
look into a better setup...if anyone has any suggestions, or ideaa
please feel free to email me...
