The Shelby American Club registry publishes each car completely.
This includes any information that pertains to the car such as it build
date, color, options, etc.
It included the cars full vin and current owners name AND past owners and
history of the car.
This kind of detail is done for several reasons, but one of them is actually
to PREVENT the theft of the car.
If the history of the car is known, then there is less chance of a car
becoming cloned and also it makes it very hard for a thief to re-sell a car,
because everyone knows who the current owner should be and who the previous
owners were too.
A good friend of mine who is really into Shelby's told me that before he
even considers buying a car, he always looks up the vin # in the current
registry to see the history of the car.
Here is an example picked out of the book at random:
Car #2291 (1967 GT350)
Completed 5/16/67 and shipped 5/23/67 to Thomas Motors Inc. (Lexington, NC).
Was marked for steel wheels but switched to aluminum 10-spokes at factory.
Purchased 9/8/67 by original owner Norman H. Silver (High Point, NC).
Presently owned by Ron Silver (NC).
This example is actually one that is pretty basic, some of the listings are
a paragraph long, listing items in extreme detail such as known parts that
were damaged or replaced because of accidents and such.
Having this kind of information available is not only helpful to a potential
purchaser or seller, it also helps with the perceived value of the mark.
