Another bone-head with a made up production number. Why, Oh Why do
people make up numbers that sound good, when they don't have a clue?
1987 & 1988 ascMcLaren considered "SERIES I" and 1989 & 1990
ascMcLaren considered "SERIES II" and THEREFORE they did **NOT**
start over numbering them in 1988 nor in 1990 !! Therefore.......
1987s were numbered 001-479 (because they made 479 of them !) and
the very first 1988 was number 480 and because they made 1,015 of
them the last 1988 was numbered 1,494. Viola, it's 1989 and SERIES
II begins so they statrt over. 1989s are numbered 001 through 247
(because they made 247 of them....Duh)! The very first 1990 was
number 001 and the numbers ran through # 301. The final 11 (eleven)
units for 1990 were given numbers 1901 thru 1911. These cars were
set aside early on to become the "Silver Anniversary Edition"
ascMcLarens that were never made. See Hank Huisman's site at

Briefly, they were to be the Sterling Silver Metallic paint, with the
Scarlet (red) interior and a "Aresma Silver" Haartz convertible roof,
and a stylized 25/25 from fender emblem where the 5.0 went on a
regulkar Mustang. ascMcLaren said it was to comemmorate the 25th
year of American Sun Roof Corporation. Ford said "NO" it's the
Mustang's 25 year silver anniversary and NOBODY speaks for Ford Motor
Company and sent a letter to asc threatening still another lawsuit if
the car was made. The units had allready been given the dash plaques
of 1901-1911. The cars were never made as Silver Anniversary models.
The were all painted either silver, red, black or white. The Aresma
Silver roofs were never made, but the cars can be told by their red
interiors and dash plaques with 1901-1911 on them. I have located 4
of the 11. By the way, the Aresma Silver tops can be seen on the
Mercedes Benz CLK 4-Passenger convertibles, where Mercedes calls the
color "ASH". (It's actually a light light grey).
