Build the car the way YOU want it, with no regard to
future value, collectability, or what others like. The
simple truth is, either way you do it, you'll lose
your shirt if you sell, so enjoy it and be happy.
Either way there will be people who like what you've
done.
If you mod it, many mods can easily be "undone" if you
save the stock parts. Bottom line, these are great
cars, and very undervalued (at least in my opinion).
The truth is, that probably won't change because most
of the public doesn't know what they are. Value will
always be about supply and demand, with no regard to
rarity or significance, though those can effect demand
to some extent.
I'm firmly in the "mod" camp. I've modded cars even
rarer than my '85 ASC/McLaren Coupe, and I've never
once regretted it. In some cases it can enhance the
value, but in the case of our cars I don't think it
will. Still, it's about having the car of YOUR dreams,
not anyone else's. I also think Sandy's '85 is pretty
cool, but it's a good thing it won't fall into my
sinister clutches. ;-)
