Re: [ASC McLaren ] got my car!! a few q's...

wow....thanks for taking the time Marq --unfrotunately.... I'm
referring to the fit when the top is up(!) it's tight around the
sides of the car - is this normal?? I'm sorry I wasn't clear and I
made you write all that but I really appreciate it... If you have any
ideas about my problem now (or if that's just the way it's supposed
to be), I'd appreciate it (again). Thanks alot Marq, you're the man-

should check how the hatch mechanism 'hold down' is bolted into
place.

the door pillars. Those ones tend to give you back and forth
adjustments. HINT : Don't go too far back with your adjustments or
it will snare the trunk lid and be a 'b*tch' to open. When
I 'accidentally' did that myself, I had to pop open the trunk in
order to unsnare the hatch piece.

down. It is the mechanism that engages when you go to pop open the
hatch. On my silly car there is just a wire leading to it. I don't
know what it is suppose to look like on an untainted McLaren. It
looks like a trunk latch mechanism - but we are not talking 'in the
trunk' here - this one is located where the hatch cover clicks
down. This one can be adjusted to give up and down positioning to
the hatch cover. It almost seems like this is the one you are
talking about for being able to slip fingers into the car's
compartment.

about the way the rag tog fits on to the hatch cover. The
adjustments that I have been talking about all concern the hatch
cover that hides your rag top under it when it is down.

made the adjustments to my hatch cover was to get a 1/8th inch gap
along the sides of the car and across the back area of the hatch
cover where it lines up along side the trunk lid.

> To complete my adjustments I had to make adjustments also to the
way the trunk lid was put on. The two hinge arms that hold the trunk
lid in place, each have two adjustment bolts on them. By loosening
those bolts slightly you can draw the trunk lid closer to the hatch
cover or back it off. Also, because of the way the trunk lid arms
are angled, it also affects the height that the trunk lid lines up
against the rear quarter fenders.

adjustments until you reach the best possible positioning of the
parts. I was able to get a 1/8th inch fitment to the trunk lid and
the hatch cover.

physically removed all these parts during their attempts to rebuild
it ( or whatever they attempted to do ). When they went to re-
install the parts they appeared to just slam the parts back together
with not much attention to the proper fitment.
