Mustang "Swift" by Tomaso

I today received another of the brochures that I started collecting
on "look-alike" ascMcLarens, BEFORE there was an ascMcLaren. This
one was called a Mustang Swift by Tomaso. The prototype cars were
1979s, but the sold to dealers for consumer purchase ones were 1980s.
Specifics:-
These cars had the rear seat intact, and a folded down convertible
top that laid flat behind the rear seat, unlike the "factory" Mustang
Convertibles done by Cars & Concepts of 1983-1993. The puppy REALLY
laid FLAT! A vinyl convertible boot, with chrome snaps securred it.
The cloth (Haartz) top was a 3-window like our McLarens, but the
smaller triangular wrap around windows were considerably larger.
There were no visable other alterations done to the car.
Tomaso of America was located in Little Rock, Ark. and was owned by
Russell & Tom Swift, thusly the name. The convertible top was
available ib black, blue, brown and tan. However they strongly
suggested the black, due to the fact that there was so much black
plastic on the car. (Grille, Side Mouldings, Mirror Housings,
Taillight Trim Mouldings.) The body & interior could beanything Ford
offerred for 1980.
While Tomaso was the vendor, promoter, dealer contact, and more, the
actual converter of the car was Classic Coachworks, Inc. They of
Orlando Florida.
I am unable to get production numbers, but I did learn that overall
the vast majority of these cars were sold in and around Florida.
Some also went to California.
All cars were ordered thru Tomaso, who then placed the order with
Bill Kreb's Sun State Ford then of 3535 W. Colonial Drive in Orlando,
Florida, who charged $65.00 "delivery fee" to Classic Coachworks of
Orlando who took possession of the car and then proceeded to convert
it. It remains unclear as to how the car went (or who paid) from
Orlando, Florida to wherever....
I have two 8x11 color photos one front 3/4 and the other rear 3/4
views. If anyone wants a full color laser computerized digital 8x11
print you'll need to send me some money. $10.00 to be exact.
