under the hood

hey guys im still working on them headlights but i have a question
for who ever can answer it...

on my 1985 ACS McLaren Capri Coupe if you look at the battery there
is 2 wires coming from the negative terminal. one wire is BIG and
FAT the 2nd should be small and thin. if you trace the small wire
back there should be a connector in the middle of the wire and the
connector should come in after about a foot of wire. what i want to
know is does everyone have this connector... this i believe is my
problem. on most cars that thin wire goes into the car for the dash
and with that old and bad connector it is creating ALOT of
resistance cuz of all the rust and carotion... resistance creates
the heat and the heat sets off the head light switch braker...
soooooooo can some one please tell me if all cars had that connector
and if so is yours kinda white and powdery or rusty? even pull it
apart and look inside...~Peter
