There are '5.0' or 302 engines.... and there are 5.0 or 302 High Output engines. Mustangs ( and McLarens ) received the 'High Output' engines.
Whereas some of the product line like a Ford LTD, Mercury Marquis Brougham, etc would have just gotten a standard issue 5.0 engine
So in a way the 5.0 HO in the McLaren is basically true... but then again so were all the engines that were stuffed in their Mustang counterparts.
And then the only other difference that relates to power is the use of the hotter cam shaft in the earlier model years of the McLaren. But it was still being stuffed into a standard issue 5.0 High Output engine....

What does the term "high output" 5.0 l (302 cu. in.) engine mean in these brochure? I was under the impression that McL just used the stock engine as it was installed by Ford. Of course, Ford could have called it "ho" for sales reasons?
