On a personal note.......
Please, people, consider the "Why" of Why some folks buy sports cars
(or "Sporty-Cars") with an automatic. I have been the brunt of much
critique for having ordered an ascMcLaren Coupe with an automatic.
Consider this:
I have an acquaintence who has a big job with a "Fortune 500"
corporation, as 1st corporate accountant. He, due to a problem at
birth, has about 65% use of his left foot. You'd never know it to
see him walk. He cannot run, however. Using a clutch is simply out
of the question for him. He drives a Ferrari 365-A ~ It's the ONLY
Sports car besides a Corvette that offers an auto gear box. (and the
sole Ferrari !).
Now me: I have been born with inheirted high blood pressure. Both
of my parents died from it. I take 7 pills a day, for it. If you
are not counting, that's 210 a month and 2,520 a year. With this my
blood pressure is "normal" ~
Without, I'd die from stroke. Because of all these pills, the side
effect (affect???) is that I have lost all feeling (sence of touch)
in my left toes (left foot's toes). It, therefore is possible, but
highly UNcomfortable for me to drive a stick.
There are also (such as myself) many people who live in highly
conjested areas, inner cities, whatever, rather than w-i-d-e open
spaces, and in these here inner cities, or overpopulated suburbs,
there are constant traffic lights, stop signs, etc, etc.
On my daily commute of 6 miles south, and then 6 miles back, north I
encounter 30 traffic lights, 6 stop signs, and in the morning many
school busses stopped at intersections, picking up 5 to 17 year olds.
Each of these requires braking and clutch-work ! Such is life in New
Jersey.
So.............. If you prefer a manual tranny car, I certainly can
understand that, but when all of you reading this encounter a person
with a Hi Po car with an automatic, please, allow us to select what
we either need, (OR prefer)! By the way, in 1969 & 1970 Automatic
OUTSOLD 4-Speed in Chry Co Hemis AND 440s, so, it ain't all bad.
If I did NOT have the problem with the side effects from the
mandatory blood pressure pills, and I lived in Iowa, I'd buy a 5-
Speed too.
I burn when I show my cars, and some 16 year old walks up, looks in,
and walks away muttering "slushbox" and completely discounts any
validity of the car's existance, simply because it's an automatic.
He has mentally filed it "Over-There" with the 1963 AMC Rambler
Classic and has lost the ability to appreciate the car on its
merits. I refuse to even talk to this breed, as no matter what I'd
say....it's STILL and always will be.... a slush-box ! and, if I
made $185,000 @ yr, I too would have a 365-A.
I just wanted you guys to realize that we all cannot be lucky enough
to drive a stick, due to the cards the man above has delt us.
