Actually, The '82 Pace Car is/was the real Pace Car from the '79 Indy 500.
It was painted white and became what could be called the Grand Prix I since
it was the first Pace Car for the Detroit Grand Prix. Jack Roush owns the
car and it is pictured in the new Fox Body Recognition Guide book.
Maybe some Detroiters could help me here....

1983 Grand Prix II Pace Car---I don't know--Need help figuring this one out.
1984 Grand Prix III Pace Car--'84 SVO
1985 Grand Prix IV Pace Car--'85 Capri/McLaren
1986 Grand Prix V Pace Car---'86 Merkur XR4Ti
F1 ran the Detroit Grand Prix through 1988 but I don't know if a Ford was
the pace car for '87 & '88.

Not only did Fond not make a 82 pace car, the 82 GT was not available in
