My advice is this:
If you don't fly (I don't) and the car on e-bay is further away than you are willing to drive to go see it, feel it, touch it, drive it, and if you are not mechanical and are NOT taking along a friend who IS mechanical then only look at cars within 100 miles of your home OR don't even look at cars for sale on e-bay. Buying a car on e-bay, from several states away, and trusting the seller as you would your Mom, is extremely risky. Playing with matches is safer. Don't even trust these "experts" to go be your eyes. They are in it for the money as well as the seller is, and sometimes their level of expectation is not as high as yours, because it's not their money being spent. Don't let your excitement over finding your dream car overpower good common sence, and caution in dealing with total strangers who have what to gain by selling to you - while you have what to lose by buying from them. GO SEE WHAT YOU ARE BUYING, BEFORE SENDING MONEY! Any respectible, honest seller will respect your for it. I am amazed after selling cars for 27 years how cautious and never dropping their guard local citizens were of dealing with their round the corner new car dealer, on a new car, and in such sharp contrast how people can be so trusting of a used car dealer 1/2 way around the country - even to the point of sendig all the money if full payment, BEFORE even seeing the car! Such stark contract. Personally, I hate these crooked types, as they make life impossible for those of us who were honest. 'Ya know, the old one bad apple spoils the pie, well, it's very true.
