Subject: [ASC McLaren ] INSURANCE GUY WON'T FIX

Just joined and glad I did!  My 1988 McLaren (50,000 miles-perfect
condition) was hit in a parking lot last week by an SUV. The hit
pushed the car forward and up onto curb then bounced back.  I thought
it was just paint and bumper...however, when I started and drove it,
could barely keep it on the road.  Driver's door has difficulty
opening and closing, "header" (?) below convertible latches is pushed
to the passenger's side by about one and a half inches and the
plastic is now SQUEAKING on the windshield not to mention all the
other rattles/noises I'm hearing.  PROBLEM:  State Farm Insurance guy
pulled up the trunk carpet, pulled up the cover over the spare tire
and pulled back the carpet on the very back wall (where the tail
lights would be on the outside) and found a "welding seam" on the
very bottom of the trunk attaching the back wall which he has decided
is new and refuses to fix McLaren because he thinks it's been hit
before.  This car is DEFINITELY out of alignment and needs to be
fixed.  I watched this car come off the transport with 7 miles on
it.  I have been the ONLY driver and, as you can tell by the mileage,
it hasn't been driven that much.  I WOULD KNOW IF IT'S TAKEN A HIT
BEFORE!  QUESTION:  Does anyone else have this welding seam on the
bottom, back of their trunk?  Is the seam the result of the
conversion?  Anyone with any information I could pass on to this jerk
I would really appreciate.  I believe he's trying to take advantage
of a lady who doesn't know too much about her car except that it's
great fun to drive (was, great fun).  Please e-mail me at
leeshe903@msn.com      I would love to present him with e-mails from
other McLaren owners on Monday!  Thanks
