Re: [ASC McLaren ] Money Pit Update

Thanks.

I think when its outside and cleaned off and I can get some quality
pictures, It'll look better.

There are some "flaws" on the outside but nothing major. Mostly
little stuff to work on.

1. The rubber mouldings which go between the wheels (three pieces,
on each side) are NOS, right out of the Ford wrappers. As you can
see the color matches well but the clear coat for the corner
reflectors and bumper covers makes the trim too shiny. I got some
satin clear from Eastwood and will probably try it to see if it will
tone down the shine.

2. The front finishing strip got painted (was supposed to stay
black.

3. The rear valance was an original asc one I got from Hank. It
wasn't the "bendy" material of the new stuff he sells. The body guy
didn't put on the rear finishing strip on since he was sure the rear
valence was going to break since it takes some force to pull the
finishing strip, bumper cover and valence all together. So he used
some plastic epoxy filler (not bondo) to eliminate the seam. I kind
of wish he didn't do that...it looks REALLY nice but not stock. I
will probably take the finishing strip, paint it and use some
adhesive to put it on so it looks correct.

4. We scrambled at the last minute to find a horizontal door window
frame moulding. I got one from a guy at FEP but it is "flattened"
ever so slightly. I will probably have to replace that down the
road.

5. The hood is not perfect. I have to really see how bad it is.
That will probably not get fixed any time soon.

6. Not sure about the antenna. It may need to be painted.

7. The hood vents were painted charcoal...the body guy is going to
paint another pair we have blue since he got that mixed up.

I was afraid the front air dam wasn't going to straighten out but it
did nicely. The side valences went on very nicely. The car also
has a new windshield, NOS side rubber mouldings and NOS mirrors.

The sail panel inserts and foglights need to go on eventually. Not
to mention the headlight and tailight covers.

I'm sure Sandy's sharp eye can spot some other flaws. If anybody
sees anything amiss, let me know. I'm pickier that most everyone
else here and you can't hurt my feelings.

-Mike
